"You're never fully dressed with out a smile!"
-Annie

That seems to be my song of note lately...except in spanish "¡nunca está completamente vestido sin una sonrisa!" good stuff. its amazing how there really are movie quotes that can be very appropriately applied to the gospel. another one I use quite often is "Of course it's hard! the hard is what makes it great. if it were easy, everyone would do it" -tom hanks, league of their own.
Anyway, things are all fine here. everything's slicker than snot on a doorknob. well, first thing is first, we have recently been told that we can no longer use any email other than that the church provides (myldsmail.net), so Im still usin' it this time to make the transition. mainly because at this very moment Im wrestling between 2 user names...you'll find out soon enough which one I picked, because...well...youll get an email from that adress. I dunno if youll still be able to send pics and stuff, as Ill only have a 5MB mailbox, instead of 250MB...
Thanks for the potato help. yeah, I really wanna start to try cookin stuff....I just dont like spending a whole lot of money (me?? not wanting to spend money??? and when it has to do with food???? nah!) we only have to cook for ourselves 2 days a week anyway. im still in the process of thinking of more recipes that I want...of course, whatever recipe cards you send will be most appreciated, who knows when one day ill just think "ya know...I really wanna make such-and-such"...Ill keep ya updated.
Its wierd how pretty much everyone has been out a year already. except me and chris, he should have a little more than 7 months, and a few of my friends from SVU have about the same time as me. Rob is gonna finish up here in 5 months or less. speaking of his family, I dunno if you guys will see them again, but if you happen to talk to them, ask them about the white-water rafting pictures. I went white-water rafting with their family in october 03 and never ended up seeing the pictures they took from that. anyway, say hi to them, too...or really....just say hi to everyone.
It might not suprise me too much at how much the ward has grown, as I dont really remember how many people were there in the first place, just that it was really small (compared to franklin ward...because compared to where Im at, its either normal, or big...). I dont really know anyone, but you can tell them that im still doin' good, im still alive, and all that good stuff.
surprisingly mom, nosespray is deffinately not what I need. I think ive only got one bottle left, but it's pretty much full...and to my great surprise, it's actually been 3 or 4 weeks since ive even used it. yay for breaking the dependence! the weather here isnt really doing anything to me except making me miserable...its not so much that I hate heat/humidity (which I kinda do anyway) but what I hate is when it is really hot and muggy when it is supposed to be winter/cold. it was such a miserable day yesterday, and today isnt much better. I realize I will not have this luxery (note from anne: that sp is too funny to correct) after the mission, but paying that much for gas was never much of a problem for me because I never had to use my own money :-P..... :-/ anyway...
So, with christmas right around the corner, I have started on a list of what I want...its obviously nothing like what I used to make when I was at home...but it's not exactly a "short list" considering Im on the mission in a foreign country, either. that'll probably come next week :-P a few things you could send by email, if you can find them, are a few of those spiritual thoughts people use all the time. like, remember that cupcake story? the one about the pink cupcake that didnt want to be bound by the mold or whatever? I could probably translate that one easy enough. or also that train story where the switch master has to decide between saving the train or saving his son. for my birthday from the presidents wife I got the "footsteps" poem in spanish, good stuff.
So, anyway, this week was ok I guess. we didnt have a whole ton of success as far as teaching goes. elder garcia wants to start focusing more on working with the members. he has had to drop the cane a little bit (with love, of course) on a few members already, and im not sure that that was the end of it. being in a small branch is difficult enough, it doesnt help that whenever we go to member/inactive's houses they all have something to say about someone else, or about how the branch used to be, but no one does anything to fix things. Elder Garcia is tired of the fact that everyone wants to tell all their problems/complaints to the missionaries when it is really not our calling to do that. that is what the branch president is for. yesterday we had district conferance (like stake conferance...but a district). it was a sattelite transmition from SLC that was broadcast to some 70 stakes and districts in argentina. everyone except president hinckley spoke at least a little bit in spanish, everyone being: Elder Gene R Cook, his wife, Hna Sainz (<--who is actually latino, her son served in this mission), Elder Holland and his wife. it was almost rather difficult to listen to some of them, most of them speak spanish pretty well, but their accents are pretty gringo-ish. it was a really good conferance. I also got to see a lot of the members of Rufino, that was really cool. Im now on divisions with another elder. from yesterday until today sometime. we actually had a pretty productive day yesterday, teaching 2 lessons in his area and setting a baptismal date for an investigator. not bad for 2 yanquis with under 9 months in the mission. anyway, hopefully things will be more exciting next week.

Ok, well, I think that's all for this week, until next time, you all just stay right where you are and dont let life keep going until I get back in over a year.
Love,
Elder Casey Adams
