Miyazake

Am I really the only one who feels very "meh" about his films? It's probably because I just don't really enjoy the style of anime in general.

I just find it very hard to identify with a lot of his films. I absolutely love Kiki's Delivery Service and Howl's Moving Castle, which are obviously easy for me to identify with older female leads. Ponyo looks cute, but I doubt it will be one of those films I constantly want to pull off the shelf and watch all the time.

THOSE ARE MY FAVORITES TOO.

I didn't really care all that much for spirited away. 8|

Yeah, I went there.

I saw Spirited Away once and never really cared to see it after that. It was a good film, I'll give it that, just not one of my favorites.

Oh. Princess Mononoke was good too, but it just wasn't as endearing as Howl's or Kiki's.

What I got out of Princess Mononoke: Recycle and stop fucking up the earth.

If anti-war sentiments were the only thing you got out of that movie, then you missed quite a lot.

The war itself was barely touched upon. What parts of the film did you actually watch?

What parts of the film did you pay attention to then? You missed the ENTIRE point of the film

N-no, there were other things they touched on: beauty (or lack of it), running away from problems, the ability (or inability) to love, and I can keep going.

I think 'beauty' was probably one of the bigger ones, as you dealt with Sophie's 'lack of beauty' and aged self throughout the entire film--which also lends to Howl falling in love with her despite her not being beautiful.

Oh noes. War. In a movie. That was adapted from a book. That was a central plot of said book. Obviously, Miyazaki is trying to shove anti-war propaganda down our throats.

tl;dr- it's a movie. Sit down, shut up, and enjoy it. Not everything has to be analyzed to death.

It was based on a book! About a country in war! WHAT DO YOU WANT?

To me Spirited Away seemed something that would be much more entertaining if I were stoner.
