May 22: Koblentz to Cochem

Jul 06, 2008 01:46

I woke up and my back was killing me. I really hope I can sleep and wake up without pain when staying at campgrounds. We stopped at a bakery on our way out and started towards Burg Eltz and COchem. The Mosel has a completely different feel to it than the Rhine and is almost completely lined with vineyards. There's about a 30 minute bike ride to get to Burg Eltz before it seemingly appears out of nowhere high on a hill. I dont know if its more impressive than Neuschwanstein but it was awesome to see. We made it to Cochem in the late afternoon and hiked up to Cochem castle. Afterwards we went down to a wine festival in town that had tents from all the major growers along the Rhein selling 1 euro glasses of wine. We kept going to make better time and reached a campground about 8 km outside of Cochem.

So far everything has been pretty smooth and we're about a day ahead of schedule. I might have a slight cold cause my throat's been sore and my nose keeps running. The weather's been great but its kinda cold tonight. Hopefully we'll see a little rain but not so much as to keep us from riding. Overall we're ahead of schedule and under budget so thats all good.
