Sheri and I usually pick a day to go downtown each year, usually Friday or Saturday night.
We chose to go yesterday, however, and were pleasantly surprised at the lack of a crowd on Thursday.
Do to business considerations beyond our immediate control, we got a late start, and came in in the middle of Larry McCray's set. Larry is one of the finest if not the finest blues guitar players on this planet, IMHO, and was the reason we picked Thursday to go. It was too bad that he was allotted such a short time to play the main stage. We did get a minute to say hello again after the show.
However, the reason I felt a need to post is what I experienced next. Bettye LaVette absolutely stunned me. An unbelievable riveting, soulful voice, and a fabulous entertainer. I would have posted earlier this morning, but I couldn't really put it into words. The words continue to fail me. Just go see her if you have the opportunity. Please.
In any event, it was a great night, and we just may go back Saturday for more.
Still living the blues,
