Supernatural Favourite Episodes

Dec 14, 2012 23:52

I can't do lists. I can't pick favourites, I'm way too indecisive for that. So this is probably not entirely accurate, but hey, this is me trying, as promised (I doubt anyone really cares, though! LOL). There must be some episodes that should have made the list and didn't or some that shouldn't have but did, but I'll have to do another show rewatch ( Read more... )

Needless to say that we don't have that much in common. LOL I admit, I am rather shocked to see you rate S2 so low.

Hehe, shocker!! XD

Season 2 is the season in which I have the hardest time keeping my interest up. I think it's because for me there's not enough mytharc and too many standalones/monsters of the week. Most of them are very good quality-wise, but they tend to bore me, and when I am bored a show loses me.

That said, it's not that I don't like the season... if I make this list again in a week season 2 may very well end up higher. While season 4 and 5 are definitely my favourites and season 7 my least favourite, season 2-3-6 are usually intercheangeable for me! LOL But right now I feel this way.

Season 4 will always be my favorite. The structure was so well organized, and I remember how hush-hush everything was surrounding the premiere and the reveal of Castiel being an angel, and the mystery slowly unraveling throughout was just amazing, imo.

I hate picking favorites too, but all the eps that "stick with me"-the ones that I think about when I remember the show, or the bits of canon that define the characters for me-all show up on your lists. :D

Not that you've asked, but I think my season ranking would be S5 > S4 > S3 > S2 > S1 > S7 > S6. I just can't forgive the rift between Dean and Cas Gamble ripped open in season 6. It breaks my heart too much. (Also, most of the episodes were so poorly written, omg.)

Glad to know (from peeking at other comments) you're a fellow mytharc fan. ;D

I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts, so I'm glad you shared your season ranking!!

I see that our ranking doesn't differ that much. I totally get where you're coming from wrt season 6. I hate what they did to Cas in that season (mainly because it feels like a means to an end rather than character development), but apart from that, I find many episodes very enjoyable and entertaining, and it's a season I rewatch more often than others, despite the fact that it enrages me and depresses me!

Oooh, but they are not ordered in a decreasing order from my absolute favourite episode and going down. Did I give you that impression, or am I misreading you? I only listed the episodes I liked more in every season, and for my convenience I listed them in the airing order, as you can tell by the seasonXepisode number before every episode!

As I said, this list isn't in any way carved in stone. For some seasons I had to cut back and decide to leave out some episodes I really liked because what list of favourites is it if I list the whole show? LOL So I probably really like many of the episodes you have on your list that I ddn't include here.

Haha well I just posted my list on here :D and were pretty similar for the most part since most seasons you had all of my episodes listed bar maybe one. You're just less picky than I am ;)

I'm fairly bored with SN these days but I agree with you about S4 being the best! That's the season that really hooked me and made me love the show. In The Beginning is also my favourite SN episode.

S3/S4 is definitely my favourite period of this show. It's when I was most invested in the mytharc and I think they struck the right balance between mytharc/MotW episodes. It's also when I was most invested in Dean/Sam and I loved Ruby. S1/S2 are too MotW for me, by S5 I'm bored of the Angel/Demons arc, and I honestly feel S6/S7/S8 have been largely pointless. S8 in particular just makes it evident to me that this show should have ended a long time ago :(

I'd probably rank the seasons; S4 > S3 > S2 > S5 > S1 > S6 > S7 > S8.

I'm sorry that you are bored!! Season 8 seems to be really divisive. I'm neither bored nor impressed with it so far. I don't think it's great, but I hope they can turn things around in the second half.

And yay for season 4 love!! <3

I agree that s3/4 has the best balance between MoTW and mytharc. I loved Ruby too, and while I never fully trusted her, I was disappointed when it turned out that it had always been a scheme to free Lucifer on her part.:(

To be honest, I've been bored since S7. It's been a long time since I felt the writer's hearts were still really in it and the last few seasons have very much felt like 'going through the motions' for me. I just can't help but feel that the show past its prime years ago at that it should have ended on a creative high ("Swan Song") rather than die an agonisingly drawn-out death. If I'm not mistaken, the CW has thrown around the idea of 10 seasons which I just find utterly depressing, really.

You won't find me defending Sera Gamble's tenure, as I don't really like the direction she took the show in (despite liking several individual episodes, especially season 6) and the choices she made (stripping the brothers of everything and everyone and going back to the MotW-heavy format). So it's not that the show couldn't or shouldn't have continued after season 5... it's that the showrunner they picked did a terrible job ( ... )
