Bah. I hate Benny. I can't stand him as main character and I hate how they manage to destroy Dean's characterization in little pieces. Dean was the one - in the previous season - who killed that sweet girl, mother of a boy, just because she was a demon or something (I don't remember her species) and now he's all about Benny. Please.

I have always wanted Dean to become less black and white about demons and the supernatural in general, so in theory I should be happy.... but the way they have shoved Benny down our throats(2 episodes focused on him in the first half of his first season?? No other character ever received such a treatment) and the supposedly "closer than brothers" bond with Dean has really put me off the character (rage on behalf of Sam and Cas).

Hopefully things will turn around later in the season, because if this is it, BARF!

And it is sad, because had they introduced the character in a different, less down-the-throat-shovey way, I would have enjoyed this storyline way more!!

To me it's an awful season so far. I don't like Benny, but I also don't like Kevin and all the new characters. I'm not interested in them. The only episode I really enjoyed was the last one with Castiel. Stop.
About Dean becoming less black and white: in the previous season - yes, I'm repeating myself - he killed a woman, who saved his own brother and had a kid. He basically killed her in front of her son.
I'm sorry, but I don't like this character development. He seems just an incredible jerk.

I'm ambivalent about the season so far. I'm really interested in the mytharc (the tablets, closing the gates of hell, Crowley, Kevin - I like Kevin! I could do with less Mama Tran, though) and I love everything with Castiel (too bad there's too little of him, as always).

I don't think the way they are structuring the season works, though. It seems directionless (maybe it is?) and the flashbacks are way overdone and they are extremely disruptive to the flow of the episodes.

Also, I am disliking both Sam and Dean alternatively or even at the same time, and that can't be good.

I really hope the season is going to improve, because I had so high hopes!!! :( I still enjoy the show, though. For now! :p

You described what I think perfectly! Im half tempted to repost this on my journal since about 99% of it reflects my thinking!

Now I'm curious to know what is the 1% that doesn't reflect your thinking!! LOL ;)

I find the Sam and Amelia stuff a little more interesting than you do :) At least its an attempt at something new and I anticipate them putting a distinctly supernatural spin on it especially now she is in the current day.

Ha!! You are right!! And also, probably you don't even want to like Benny, while I feel compelled to try and (pretend to) be fair!! :D

Ehh. *sympathizes* After reading your post, I (yet again) can't help but feel glad that I stopped watching the show...

But, maybe they're exaggerating Dean's complexes/immature reactions in order to give them some kind of resolution later?

Hopefully!! Since Carver said that perception is a central theme this season, maybe it will turn out that the way Dean perceived his relationship with Benny was wrong. Or... something! Who knows...

Certainly you are less stressed than some of us, in your SN-oblivious world! Difficult times ahead for Cas, the spoilers say... the writers sure like to torture him! :(

*hugs*

Maybe the realiziation of the mistake with Benny will open Dean's eyes to his mistakes with Cas and Sam, too.

Difficult times ahead for Cas, the spoilers say...

Sometimes I wonder, if perpetual torture of the character is the only kind of drama the writers know there is.

Sometimes I wonder it too. I hope it will have been worth it, at least... I hope they'll allow Cas to stay alive and go back to Heaven or whatever at the end of the show. If they kill him off 3672 times and put him through horrible things repeatedly just to kill him off for good I will be... not happy. LOL

OK I only just now watched the epp (I'm really behind on my TV rn, hiatus is coming right in time!), and god was out AWFUL. :s This season is horrendous, and it makes me sad that they extended the show too long to go out on such a bad, blah note. :( Everything you say about Benny is well said, he is basically a Gary Stu/special snowflake and it's really annoying. IDK how Cori people can like him, especially the way they make him supposedly better than Sam in Dean's eyes, etc. They are both acting like dicks this season, and I hate what they did to poor Martin, how random...:/

Oh no, is there one more episode before hiatus then? When does it air? My TV guide said TBA for 9 pm Wed...:s

This episode was rather awful indeed. I am starting to lose my inhibitions and just flat out hate Benny (for his Mary Stu-ness, compounded by the fact that almost everyone on the internet is gushing over him. Blah).

Most of the people who like him also like Cas, Kevin, the whole cast... most of the non-brothers-only fans seem to really like his addition, and I can understand that given that mindset.

What I can't understand is how someone who's brothers-focused can hate Castiel but like Benny, that's indeed beyond my power of comprehension.

Oh, well.

No, there are no more episodes before the hiatus. The next episode airs on January 16.

OMG yes!!! Finally someone else who can see why I can not stand having this insufferable character on my screen! Geeze the amount of dumbing down they do of both Cas and Dean's capabilities in order to let him rescue one or the other in all of his appearances so far is annoying!

What I can't understand is how someone who's brothers-focused can hate Castiel but like Benny, that's indeed beyond my power of comprehension. The answer to that is many of them are hypocrites who are showing themselves for what they are! They claim to have issues with Castiel because he "comes between the brothers" or whatever ( ... )

You almost scare me!!! :p Haha

People have the right to dislike Castiel and like Benny. I just wish they could provide some reasons that actually made sense.

Or not. They don't even have to justify themselves (afterall I tend to not like/not care for many of the popular characters, for no other reason that they rub me the wrong way!). I'll just avoid confrontation and remain in my corner forever!

And please, can we get rid of Benny??? or at least let's make him less special snowflake, thanks.
