Yeah I just tried to get on and it wouldn't let me either. Hope it's nothing too serious! I just read Spike #2 and felt like discussing it... Typical! :(
Yeah, I actually really liked it. This miniseries definitely has probably the strongest writing we've had in S9 thus far (except Joss's #1). Spike's voice is really good and I loved all his thoughts about Sunnydale etc.
And if you're not a fan of the bugs (I can't remember if you are or not?) there's very little of them in this issue so it feels completely different from #1. I can't decide which issue I liked better but I'm probably leaning towards #2, to be honest. Not because of the bugs (I like them) but just because of all Spike's inner thoughts. Morgan was actually pretty intriguing as well which I wasn't really expecting.
I don't know if I like the bugs, I don't have a real opinion. As you know, I don't read the comics. I don't like them enough to go through the hassle of getting the hard copies or even the digital ones, so I only read the summaries and the discussions.
From what I've seen, the bugs are funny and endearing, so in that sense I guess I like them. But I don't like what they are doing to Spike's story... I don't like having him isolated from all the other characters and stuck with them all the time. So I hope they go away soon!
Damn, BF seemed to be working and now it's gone back down again. And I had just finished writing a post and I think I lost it :/
Well, if it's any consolation it seems increasingly likely that Spike and the bugs will part ways after this miniseries. I could be wrong but Gischler seems to be writing the bugs as becoming more and more independent and now they're questioning their role in Spike's life. Also, Spike is longing for a more permanent home and to no longer just be on the fringes of life. Together that seems to suggest that the miniseries will conclude with Spike and his bugs having an amicable split and both going their separate ways. The only thing that makes me doubt it a little is that Spike still has to make an appearance in A&F and I just assume he'll use the bug ship to fly to London. But who knows?
I'm on an AtS S4 rewatch at the moment. I still don't understand why people loathe this season so much. I love it!
Noo, silly you!! When the forum is this wonky, always, always write the post on Word first, so you won't lose it!! I have learnt that the hard way myself!! ;)
I hope you are right about Spike and the bugs!!
And I love season 4 too (faux-Cordelia grates, but I think it's mainly due to the fact that Charisma can't sell it. I think she is an amazing comedic actress, but she can't do evil at all), and I resent that they treat Angel/Angelus as two different people, but apart from those issues, the season is amazing! Epic and intense the way I like it! :D
I am on a Btvs S2 rewatch, instead! :D Sometimes I forget how much I like it!!
Yeah, Charisma is hilarious but she doesn't have much range beyond that. I didn't mind her as the villain in some episodes but in others she's pretty awful (*cough* Orpheus *cough*). She's even worse at drama, though. Sometimes I seriously wonder if the writers saw the dailies for Tomorrow ("I'm in love! With Angel!") and realised they just had to kill off Cangel because she didn't have the chops to pull it off. I'm dead serious.
The only time Charisma ever sells the drama is in You're Welcome, and those were real tears anyway so she wasn't technically acting, and when she's crying over Xander's betrayal in Lovers Walk. The latter is just weird because it's like she got worse at acting as she went along, and usually it's the other way around :/ She's got fantastic comedic timing though so I still wouldn't have ever traded her for another actress. She owns most of her role it's just a shame she doesn't have much range beyond that because it really limited what they could do with the character

Yes, but many people bring season 4 as evidence of the 2 separate identities thing between Angelus and Angel. I'm always amazed by how many people still can't make sense of the mythology and still think that the anomaly is Spike and therefore blame him and season 7 for everything that is wrong in the world, when everything is actually perfectly explainable and the difference between Spike and Angel and their souled and unsouled version is not that different.
Season 4 doesn't help these people in any way!
But I still love it! :p
I rewatch Btvs and Angel all the time, but I never rewatch Buffy season 3, it's my least rewatched... the lack of Spike is really hard to get past for me. I'm planning on forcing myself to rewatch it after I'm done with season 2.
And I don't even own season 1... I should at least download it!! I always want to, but I never do!! I must have seen it only a couple of times, many years ago...

I totally agree. Besides, if there was an anomaly it would actually be Angel as souled!Darla was much like Spike. She didn't have a different name or totally different personality, either.

I agree that season 3 is the best and most consistent quality-wise. I've always said it!! I used to say it was my favourite, until I realized it wasn't true and it was kind of hypocritical, since I never watch it.
Season 1 is very cheesy and dated and with some terrible episodes, but I agree that there are some great episodes in there!! I have to get a copy, really...
You know, everytime someone says that Btvs was their childhood show I am all baffled! LOL How can 7-8 year-olds understand the complexity (or the darkness... Spuffy in season 6, for example) of this show at that age? I would never let my child watch Buffy until they are at least 13-14.
Maybe it's difficult for me to understand because I was in my 20s when I started watching the show!! Haha I'm so old! Sigh
Yup I was only 7 when the show first started! I guess when you're 7 you really don't need to understand the complexity of the show. All I saw was cool fight scenes, awesome monsters and the humor (although a lot of it probably went straight over my head) and that was enough to hook me. Plus, for some reason I've always loved seeing girls kick ass so it was always really appealing to me that that Buffy was a female. I used to love Xena around this time too lol
