Next Year's KA&S...What to do??

Jun 09, 2009 18:00

I've been asked to put in three entries next year: one in Costume Accessories, one in Textile Arts/Applications (i.e. embroidery), and one in cooking.

I hate documentation. Hate it hate it hate it.

But I KNOW that if I plan things right UP FRONT, that THINGS will be much easier.

So. What to do.
Or would the better thing be: What to look into?
Because I've discovered that it's one thing to THINK you are going to make something, but once you start looking into it, and really researching it,  you might run down a different rabbit hole.

So I'm going to start with "Ideas" of what I want to try.
Then I'm going to start looking things up and see what transpires.

COOKING IDEA: Recipes involving gum tragacanth.
I enjoyed playing with it back in 2007
gum tragacanth is such a weird thing to work with. It's so hard to find.
And I have a Frigging POUND Of it! Well, it's a big bag.
And you need so little, that I've got plenty for experimentation.

So what I want to do, is find as many recipes that contain gum trag as possible, and see if I can develop an overview of when and where it was used, and maybe see where it takes me recipe wise. I don't know if I'll have enough info for it to be a research paper, but we can see what transpires.

COSTUME ACCESSORIES IDEA: I'd like to do something that involves one of my other skills like knitting or spinning or embroidery..I'll have to think about it. I might do something with the 1470-1510  italian headresses, That would be supporting my persona.

TEXTILE ARTS/ APPLICATION IDEA: I really need to do an embroidered Italian Renn sleeve. Because it would be nice to have one! Actually that could go under costume accessories or Embroidery. If I can buy or make a slate frame that will fit a full sleeve then I'll go in that direction. Otherwise I may need to improvise one from a large picture frame (like a 24x36). I've also thought about an embroidered blanket. The Decameron shows several that are either embroidered or woven.
