The other night I finished all the radial lines of quilting on the Magnus Mantle.
I was having my doubts, but now that all of one direction of quilting is done, I can see how it is going to act and I'm not so worried about the outcome.
Here is a photo that I took the other day:
I've already started doing the zig zag herringbone cross quilting around the neckline.
Once I get a few rows done, I'll take a picture so you can see what I'm talking about
I'm really getting excited about this but I have a lot of tedious work ahead.
I'm going to try to knock out a good chunk if not all of the zig zag this weekend.
After I finish all the zig-zags, I have to assemble, attach and quilt up the collar,
And after that I do the hand sewn eyelets. Then I should be done.
I was worried about the 4 layers of quilting not being enough padding. So as an experiment, I took my hand and put it in a fist.
Then I took my car key and poked my hand really hard (on the outside web of flesh between my thumb and hand), and it hurt.
So I tried the same thing with the mantle covering my hand and it did not hurt at all.
So the quilting does take out any of the sharp painful sensations that would be caused by the rings digging into the skin.
Yay! Experiment a success!
More later!
