(whining at my idiocy and) 8059 fic recs

May 06, 2009 18:22

Feel free to disregard this and just click the cut for the fic recs, since I want to have some stern monologue to myself first.

Note to self: First of all, the rational thing to do when you're a bit unwell was not going to the gym--though it did do well for stretching your limbs; secondly, the smart thing to do when you're tired after the workout was to unwind a bit at your grandpa's house nearby--though it meant that you would be caught on a traffic jam because you love to play with your cousin; thirdly, the safest thing to do when you're unsure about how well you can concentrate on the street was to avoid taking that certain narrow path which had given you three incidents already regarding your car--though it was the shortcut to your house; fourthly, the wise thing to do was to learn from your mistakes and use your rear view mirror for any potential wall or pavement that could harm your car--though you feel that it should've been okay, check twice, tired eyes was different than alert eyes; and lastly, self, do not drop your guard when driving--though you had driven your car for three years already, the incidents on mid-2008 to now had been more because of utter idiocy compared to the incidents that had happen on your first year driving.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I had idiotically scratched my car again when I'm taking a turn; this time, to a wall. Nice.

Second note to self: Even though the voice on the end of the line sounded like your little brother, do not ever say, "Wait up, I'm zipping my pants. I just came from the bathroom." Because, it might not be your brother, it might be the home appliance repair service from Toshiba.

Way to go, me. You had embarrassed yourself, and forgot the car incident because of the humiliation XD At least American Idol's performance cheer me up XP

ETA: fixed the cut. It seemed that today is my idiotic day. Pfft >_<

8059 fic dump by ranty_rie

R - NC-17 | TYL!situation | mentioned minor character death

Comment:
ranty_rie’s fics are beautiful, and this fic dump is not an exception. Most of them are breathtakingly sweet but melancholic, and I like the feel that I got from the fics

Addictions by kittyling

PG-13 | fluff, slight angst

Comment:
This fic portrayed Gokudera’s angsting over Yamamoto who said an unexpected thing before he left; I got a perfect lovely image of Gokudera in denial for his addiction to Yamamoto before yielding in ♥

Amazuppai by kiasidira_ixari

G - PG-13 | divided between angst, bittersweet, and fluff

Comment:

This was a fic that had been made for the 10 songs meme challenge; and the author did a great job in making it. The fic mostly circulated in TYL!situation, which was something that I definitely had a weakness of. The fic alternated from hurt-comfort theme that followed the dark world of mafia, and cute domestic-bordering-to-sap theme. It was written decently for a time-limited fic challenge, giving a somewhat complete feeling with each piece.

C for Continue by pandku

PG-13 | character death, angst | TYL!situation

Summary from the author:
Gokudera refuses.

Comment:
I love the author take on the post character death situation, on how Gokudera had to cope with it all. And there’s an unexpected bit near the end, that got me confused if I should be laughing at Yamamoto’s idiocy or crying heartbreakingly at it. The writing itself wasn’t perfect, but it can surely made me felt torn at least for a few hour if not all day-or at least, before I read another fluff.

Counting Kisses by ivy_queen

PG-13 |fluff, hurt-comfort | TYL!situation

Summary from the author:
A look into their relationship as Yamamoto keeps track of the number of times he's kissed Gokudera.

Comment:
This fic indulged me with several ways: I absolutely loved the pace; loved the hurt-comfort bit; loved the UST (which took almost ¾ part of the fic); and loved the fluff that turning me into a puddle of goo.

Five Ways Yamamoto Almost Confessed His Love to Gokudera by picnicbird

PG-13 | pre-slash | semi-AU

Summary from the author:
Too much time spent together makes him wonder just how much longer this will all last, if time is running out.

Comment:
Hm… I love how Gokudera trying to avoid to face Yamamoto’s feeling here, and how Yamamoto still stayed. The ending was pretty open, and I kind of remember that there’s a sequel to this fic-but I’m not really sure whether that’s my imagination speaking or not :P

Happy Endings are Still Endings by proboscus

PG | fluff laced with angst, I guess | TYL!situation

Comment:
It’s a fic that’s mainly illustrated Yamamoto and Gokudera in TYL situation, and it contained beautiful description of them. There’s also a Gokudera-centric fic in the same page, which was angsty yet brilliant content.

Look Over Here by Shi-chan

G | flangst | TYL!situation

Comment:
The theme was actually pretty cliché for 8059-Yamamoto was not the same again, and Gokudera didn’t really like the change. However, the cuteness factor in it just made me want to say ‘d’awww’, and the next thing I know, I recced it here. Gah.

Pretending by templated

G | angst, friendship fic |TYL!arc spoilers

Summary from the author:
Prompt-Pretending nothing’s broken. Wherein Yamamoto is surprisingly mature.

Comment:
There’s only a slight hint of actual 8059 here; you can pretend that it’s not even there-but when Gokudera pinpointed on how Yamamoto acted-I don’t know, something warm yet painful also hit on my chest.

Reception by scuttlebuttincx

PG-13 | Hurt-Comfort | TYL!situation, references Millefiore arc but gives no spoilers, 59 -> 27

Summary from the author:
In a happier TYL timeline, after Tsuna and Kyoko's wedding, Gokudera is forced to sort out his own emotions.

Comment:
I love it when seeing a pairing so vulnerable for each other, and this fic had showed some of that vulnerability with a perfect timing that it made me melt on my seat.

Soldout by rukawagf

PG | Gen, slice of life

Comment:
Er… Not really 8059, but the slice of life bit in this drabble tempted me to rec this ;P

Ternary Logic by stitchedophelia

PG | crack

Summary from the author:
A Smoking Ban is in order.

Comment:
Cliché theme, non-cliché ending *grin*

The Glassblower by nonartisan

R for language and situation (but I personally still think that it’s PG-13) | hurt-comfort, fluff | Band!AU, mention of 6918

Comments:
I love how Yamamoto handled Gokudera and his problems her ♥ The snippets of the interaction between the band members are also lovely.

To Feel Thy Lips by ivy_queen

PG-15 | fluff, denial fic | vague OOC-ness

Summary from the author:
Obsessions can make people act very strangely, even someone like Gokudera.

Comments:
I love how the author gave illustration of Gokudera’s denial. It seemed so… him XP

What will They Think of Next? by stitchedophelia

G | fluff | feat. Yamamoto senior POV

Comments:
I don’t know many 8059 featuring Yamamoto senior, with his point of view about Yamamoto and Gokudera’s relationship. This fic touched the theme sweetly, and by the end of it, my heart felt warm ♥

What Yamamoto Realized by eruferu

PG-13 | flangst | future fic

Summary from the author:
Four times Yamamoto realized life wasn't a game.

Comments:
I can’t help to rec it; the description of Yamamoto’s contemplations were brilliant, with the angst and fluff melded well.

You are My Signal Fire by onlyforsale

PG | angst | TYL!situation

Comments:
The author described well on how Gokudera only saw things that he only wanted to see, which consequently made him missed some hints from Yamamoto. It also incorporated one of the writing style that I love-telling pieces that led to an understanding of the situation, without revealing too much.

Falling Up series by sadlygrove
PG-13| angst, fluff | TYL!situation

Comments:
Highly recommended for those of you who like the idea of dark!Yamamoto, the fic gave brilliant plot that had me on an emotional roller-coaster, not to mention the characterization was also spot on.

The Only Living Boy in New York by downjune

1 | 2

PG-13 | flangst |TYL!situation, complete with FST

Comments:
I loved fics that incorporated songs into it, and this fic really suit that taste-moreover, it was the central of the fic itself. The fic basically told about songs that Gokudera liked, some points about mix tapes (love it!) and what it could mean to someone else, and evolved their (love) life around it. The plot itself was great, I love the pacing, the denial, the get-together, and the ending that made me content enough to be a happy fangirl :3

Anything but Fine by sensitivefish

R | angst | kind of TYL!situation

Summary from the author:
Mission goes wrong and Gokudera has to take care of Yamamoto.

Comments:
The fic generally told about how Yamamoto and Gokudera’s mission went wrong, and they had to wait for help. I loved the tension it brought, how the fear made them desperate to join their bodies to assure that they’re still there together.

Carving Cornetti by bakabokken

PG-13 | flangst

Prompt:
In short, less-than-TYL 8059 in denial, leading to jealousy over a significant other, and angst.

Comment:
Mm, couldn't resist cliche fluff fic starring jealous!Gokudera. It's a bit cliche, but I loved the insecurity, the mafia bits, and the hurt/comfort part :3

I'd Storm Heaven for You, if I Knew Where It was by iluxia

NC-17 | angst | extreme violence, blood and gore; heavy and dark angst; insanity.

Comment:
Brilliant description of bipolar & depression + two boys struggling with it together and get stronger because they're together + angsty mafia world + great plot + classical tracks by Ravel and Chopin = I'm sold

----

That's it for today, hope you all enjoy it. I'm going to erase my mind out of the idiotic things I did today >_< See you again :)
