I haven't been keeping up with work as well as I'd like. The weather is so beautiful, television is so addictive, time spent with friends and family feels so wholesome, and my cat is downright mesmerizing. And, lest I forget, student writing is so often painful to read. I'm not sure which I'd prefer -- to become desensitized to poorly constructed prose or not.
Inspired by my friend, I mixed up a batch of goat cheese with fresh dill and honey this morning. It's delicious!
Today I am thankful for
1. Dreams. My dreams aren't always pleasant. Sometimes they tell me things about my subconscious that I didn't particularly care to know; at other times they rehearse my anxieties in magnified form. Nonetheless I find them entertaining to remember. Last night I had a typical stress dream. I was informed that I had to teach a class that had already begun for which I was unprepared. I'm amazed by how many of the "right" things I was able to do -- get to the room right away, pop in a film to occupy the students while I looked for the blackboard (nope, wasn't there), find a piece of paper to pass around as a sign in sheet because there was no roster, and lead a discussion on what the students expected from the class since I had no idea what the class was about! After waking up, I was very thankful that I know what I'll be teaching today!
2. "Dreams," the Cranberries song (covered by Faye Wong). Last week I played Chungking Express by Wong Kar Wai for my Intro to Film students. They loved it! I must say that I did not like the film the first time I saw it, but with each subsequent viewing I've grown more fond of it. It features Faye Wong and her version of Cranberries' Dreams. I've had the song stuck in my head ever since -- thank goodness that I don't find it annoying!
