why i love my new roommate

Sep 12, 2007 23:26

She offers and accepts help gracefully.
She does not hesitate to try new experiences.
She loves all living things.
She knows how to take care of herself, and is starting to take care of me, and doesn't mind me trying to take care of her.
She is concerned but not stressed about money and time.
She delights in beautiful rituals and artifacts.
She is slightly forgetful.
She listens carefully.
She has faced personal and social hardships.
She laughs readily.

Since picking AS up from LAX Sunday morning, we have spent a lot of time together. I showed her the Japanese market near our home, and gave her a tour of the building and apartment. After a nap, we went to a pool/grill/birthday party for JB -- we all had a wonderful time, and I no longer feel self conscious wearing a bikini. On Monday we ran errands: banks, cell phone companies, movers, etc. Meanwhile I even got some of my own appointments done and finally sent out a proof I should have finished a while back. Yesterday I took JB to LAX for her trip home for Rosh Hashanah, then worked and caught up to correspondence for a couple of hours, then saw my therapist. I will be cutting back our meetings after this week, since school is about to start, and I hope that this change will not make me too sad. At home I napped -- late in the afternoon, I received a call from my old roommate MM, who told me that AS had locked herself -- and her cellphone -- in the room. I nap hard, and so did not hear her knock. We were very happy that I had introduced AS to MM and her boyfriend/new roommate J, because AS could find him to call her to call me ;) . AS and I cooked a scrumptious meal together, and ate it at our table, with a tablecloth and candlelight and Chopin :) . Today I woke to the beautiful aroma of breakfast cooking -- AS had made us sausages, eggs, sauteed onions, and bread! We ran some more collective errands, bought a lot of wonderful little things from a Japanese 99cent store, and returned to a mid-afternoon lunch. After my daily nap, I went to USC to audit an animation class there -- took a lot of good notes for dissertation.
That's the flowing water account, for those who care. Now I go to sleep, because I'm a good girl and have been sleeping before midnight every night.

family, animation, home, food, friends, school
