Wow! Wow. What a well-reasoned and lucid account of Freuds' views. I usually see this sort of writing in prestigious lay magazines that writes in depth stories such as the New Yorker, although sometimes I think they may write with a tad more simplication and condescension than you. You are a very good teacher and writer.
I missed your last few posts because I have been on call, then post- call...etc.etc. Will go through them soon. Speaking of dreams, I just woke up from a nightmare that is probably laden with significance- although I'm tired and didn't spend any effort trying to decipher it. I was going from room to room, adjusting the medication that the patients are taking. I'm using this urgent, slightly annoying authoratative tone that I've been using recently because my attending lets me run the show and I find that I have to keep a tight rein as the boss. We approach the patient's bedside and all of the sudden, the nurse pinned me down and was about to give me an insulin injection. I explained that I'm not the patient and tried to flee- but she just wouldn't let go and was about to jab the needle into my thigh when I woke up from the fear of sharp object and impending hypoglycemic coma.
Again, you are too kind. I actually find my writing too "gummy." Need to loosen up quite a bit more before I might feel like I'm fit to be published in non-academic contexts -- excepting lj, of course ;) .
