I was crying so hard from shock and pain and betrayal and confusion. I have no idea how long I sat there with my hand cradled in my lap, sobbing with my forehead against the steering wheel, but I was jolted from it when Mike returned home and pulled up beside me. His face was worried.
"What's wrong?" he asked. "You okay? Charlie okay?"
I couldn't speak but saw panic take over his face.
"He bit me," I managed to get out between tears.
