LJ is apparently at it again with hijacking of outbound links. It's a hamfisted enough effort that I actually noticed it in Firefox. At the bottom of every page, every time I loaded my Friends Page, I saw a thing that said, "Transferring data from outboundlinks.me" and it never really went away. It was apparently only supposed to show up when you moused over a link, but for some reason it stayed up on my page and things like that bug me, so here's what I learned about how to make it go away.
One, you can go to the LJ console (
http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/) and paste this in to the box:
set opt_exclude_stats 1
This may or may not actually solve the problem for the future, as it's apparently some legacy flag, but I set it just in case.
Second, if you're running AdBlockPlus, and you should be, open the preferences under the Firefox Tools menu, then add these two filters:
http://l-stat.livejournal.com/js/pagestats/DR_v4u.jsoutboundlink.*
Restart Firefox once you've made the changes.
I found all this info with some basic google searches, but I thought I'd consolidate what I learned and share with you. Mostly the info is from here:
http://community.livejournal.com/no_lj_ads/87881.html and here:
http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_lounge/ I'm not quite ready for the hassle of installing noscripts, but it's on my radar now.
Hope this helps some of you out there.
