If it's Tuesday, there must be kittens

Today and last week on Tuesday I went in to San Francisco to volunteer at the SFSPCA's Macy's Christmas windows. Which basically means that the SFSPCA puts kittens in holiday themed windows and I stand out front with a donation box. It's remarkably fun. I don't have to ask anyone for money. I do get to tell people that the kittens are adoptable though. Half the time the answer is "I got my cat here last year". The other half the time the answer is "I'm from the UK", which I find amusing. Today I talked to pet lovers from Ireland, Australia (via SLC), Scotland ("near Glasgow"), Georgia (the state, not the country) and a bunch of other places. I had some big spenders today too. Somebody dropped a $50(!) in my little donation box. At the time I thought it was a $20, but no. So in the span of a two hour shift, I collected a little more than $100. Pretty cool for not asking for a single donation.

I'm really enjoying this little volunteer stint. It makes me feel so good to stand there in the sunshine for two hours and just see people smile and awwww at the kitties. If I happen to help an animal find a home or collect some money for the SFSPCA, that's a bonus. I need to change my time next week because I signed up to take a class from a local camera store about studio lighting for portfolio taking.

Afterward I went to the SF Auto Show. It kinda sucked. It was cool to see the cars that I usually only see on Top Gear, and there was a sweet matte yellow Lamborghini, but for the most part the normal people cars I'm seeing these days are kind of uninspired. I only wrote three notes to myself. "New Camaro's kinda hot minus Transformers factor." "Scion's still ugly." and "Where the hell is Nissan?" Nissan didn't attend. I was surprised by that.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Last week on my way home from my Macy's shift, I lost one of the little squishy tips to my favorite Apple in ear headphones. There's an Apple store between Macy's and the train, so I stopped in to see how badly they were going to try to rip me off to replace it and they ended up giving me two free replacement bits. Good customer service in the holiday season FTW!
