I feel completely inadequate to the task of reviewing this with anything like the eloquence it deserves so I will keep it simple.

You have captured the essence of Bill and Laura's story in this, their search for a home was never about finding Earth it was about finding each other and, in finding each other, finding the best part of themselves.

While this drabble is from Laura's point of view I can easily imagine a similar thought process for Bill, parallels for all the choices and compromises they have made in their lives to lead to this moment, the insecurities and self-loathing they feel, mistakes perceived and actual which have shaped who they have become. But through all the good, the bad and the ugly of their lives they can finally look at each other and find home, that sense of connection and belonging, seeing the person all those elements combine to create, seeing the heart of each other and their own 'soul' reflected back.

I really love this, the feeling of liberation as Laura shifts her priorities, clears her head and finally finds what she's been looking for all along. Wonderful. Thank you.

Wow. Your reviews always make me go back and read my fluff, looking for the greatness you found and I hadn't intentionally put there.

their search for a home was never about finding Earth

So that explains how Pythia could be right -- Laura's promised land, her home, that last commitment to Bill, does not happen in her lifetime.

mistakes perceived and actual which have shaped who they have become

Yep! The advantage of age is realizing that your mistakes are an essential part of who you've become.

That's how I saw it. Laura's promised land is that cabin by the lake with Bill, the well earned retirement, together, that they never got.
