Comments: Are wonderful and appreciated it.
Marlee stood outside the airport with tears in hers eyes, feeling like a fool. Though she'd intellectually known that she would have to part ways with Fabian, she hadn't expected it to be so...painful. She felt like she was being stabbed in the heart.
Trying to pull herself together, she got out of the car and waited for Fabian to collect his bags from the trunk. Jack was there as well and he tactfully turned away to give his friends some privacy.
"I guess this is it." Fabian said, trying to smile but Marlee could see some of the same sadness in his eyes.
"Yeah." she nodded, trying hard to hold everything in.
Reaching into his pocket, Fabian pulled out a wrapped box and handed it to her. "I got you a little something." he said, shrugging bashfully.
"Fabian...you didn't have to." she replied, touched by the gesture.
"I know...but I wanted to."
Blinking rapidly, she tore into the wrapping paper and pulled out a simple gold locket. Inside was a picture of the two of them laughing about something at one of their rehearsals. This time, Marlee couldn't hold back the tears.
Fabian stepped forward, wrapping his arms around her and holding her tightly. She clung to him, not wanting to let go. After a moment, he reached into his pocket and pulled out some tissues that he used to mop her face. "We'll see each other again." he promised. "You're not gonna get rid of me just by sticking me on a plane, baby!"
She had to chuckle at this and he smiled before biting his lip and turning his head for a second. "I'm really gonna miss you." he admitted.
"Don't YOU start crying." she joked, but she gave him a one armed hug.
"I won't...just for you." he replied with his trademark cheeky wink.
She rolled her eyes and gave him a little shove. He went and said his goodbyes to Jack before returning to his bags. "Have a safe trip." Marlee told him, pulling him in for one last hug.
"I'll call you when I get in." Fabian said, brushing a piece of hair behind her ear.
"You'd better!"
Smiling again, Fabian collected his bags and made his way to the door. Turning just before he entered, he waved to her. She returned his wave and he walked through the door. As it shut, she heaved a sigh. The last goodbye was always the worst.
Jack, could you put this on for me? Marlee signed.
Sure. Jack said, taking the necklace and fastening it around her neck. As they climbed back into the car, Marlee told herself that she would always have a little piece of Fabian with her and somehow, the thought made her feel a little better...
