Holiday

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all who celebrate the day. I have to admit, this is not my favorite holiday. For my mother and me, it's a quiet day as my brother goes to his girlfriend's family's for the day. (He and his girlfriend come to our house for Christmas.) My sister invited us to her house but that's never a good idea. (My earlier post will explain.)

As for the food...I'm a non-traditionalist. I'm the only person I know that doesn't like turkey, ham and all the trimmings. The only thing I look forward to is my mother's pumpkin pie. She makes the best and it's the only one I'll eat. Instead of the traditional feast, my mother is making other something else. Today it will be an Italian shrimp and pasta dish that is to die for. Last year, I made Tex-Mex for the holiday and Lasagna for Christmas.

Today is the day you give thanks for that which you have. I am thankful for my mother. She is the most amazing person I know. Her life would be much more financially stable if she didn't let me and my dog live with her. We would be out on the streets without her. She says it's a small price to pay for all I gave up (employment and my own place) and the help I gave her by taking care of their house and my father. (24 hour care, feeding and dressing him and generally doing for him all that he could no longer do himself. Home and auto repairs and other tasks.) I am thankful for Reagen (my dog) for his ability to make us both laugh when our lives are nothing to laugh at. I am thankful that my family (including extended family) are healthy. I am thankful that 2009 is almost over and I am hopeful that 2010 will be better for everyone.
