Mindless Yobs Use Puppy as Football
The six-week-old puppy had severe brain damage and was blinded in one eye
A six-week-old Labrador cross puppy has had to be put down after a callous gang of yobs used her as a football.
The defenceles pup was left blind and brain damaged after the horrific ordeal.
She was rescued by a passer-by, who saw three teenagers kicking and throwing the dog around near the BMX track in Temple Park, South Shields, Tyne and Wear.
The dog was taken to St Francis Animal Rescue centre in South Shields, whose staff took her to a vet, but she had suffered a serious blow to the head.
She was put on a drip and given two injections but started having fits on Monday afternoon.
Vets decided her brain was damaged beyond repair and had to put her to sleep.
"There was nothing else we could do other than put the poor little thing out of her misery. When she was put to sleep everyone was devastated," said Anne Kirton, who runs the centre.
"We get cases like this year after year, but it never makes it any easier to accept.
"If children were brought up to give more respect to animals, I'm sure there'd be less cruelty in the world."
It is not known who owned the puppy.
Police are looking for the three teenagers in the hope of bringing a prosecution against them
