I have more or less committed myself to going to Paris for 9 days. The cheapest ticket, direct, was from Continental for once-- $477--and that is with the OnePass discount from Mastercard. I do not think I could hope to get anything better than that, and so somewhat recklessly I have purchased it, without any guarantee that the French will even allow me into France. But I know these fares, and by the time I go for my visa appointment in December, the price will have increased, I bet. I doubt very much it will go down. If I have to cancel and rebook for sometime later and suffer the penalty, well so be it--I guess I'll have learned a valuable lesson. But I have never been refused a visa, though sometimes I've had to bring additional supporting documents and wait a few days (those fucking Germans),

The next headache is finding a place to stay. I've been spoiled by 3 star hotels that cost less than $20 in Asia and know that I'll be lucky to find a hostel bed for $30 in a dorm setting. I'm tired of sleeping surrounded by 20 strangers though, and so there's got to be a way of working around that.
