Our friend Morgan from film school told us he was having a "Secret Life of Us Party" the other day, on a rooftop in St Kilda.
Morgan is from Sydney, he goes back there tomorrow.
So last night we thought we'd go along to his awesome party so we'd get a chance to say goodbye before he left (partly so he'll let us come and visit him - free accomodation, y'know).
After going to the wrong party (leftovers of a daytime rooftop party) we found our party.... except there were seven people other than Sandra, Morgan and myself. Hmmm. Fun.
Our token American friend Sean was there with his girlfriend, and to our dismay, was yet another of those boys who act completely different when their girlfriends are around. He barely said a word all night. What's with that? Our English affair Neil is the same too. Although we don't think his girlfriend likes us.
(and Dan is our English boyfriend, in case you were wondering. but he's not different when his girlfriend is around. She likes us though)
Anyway, so we stayed for a little while, crammed onto a tiny balcony. We got stuck talking to some weird creepy guy and while he was sitting right next to us Sandra and I discussed how if we met anyone who weirded us out that night we'd tell them we were 2/3 of our lesbian band, Brick Veneer, and that I sing and play guitar and Sandra is the bass player. Weird Creepy Guy obviously has selective hearing, because he then said, "Oh, so you girls are in a band?"
We played along. Sandra made the mistake of telling him our music has a lot of folk influences, which set him off on a rant about how great folk music is and how he used to go to the Weddings Parties Anything Christmas shows every year and one time he met Mick Thomas. And that he knows where Paul Kelly lives. (heh, Sandra and I were in his building last weekend on a random note)
We left once all that excitement wore off, poor Morgan had sent me a message before we were even out of the building apologising for his party being so crap. Awww. I can't wait to go and visit him and the other film school kids from Sydney. (End of Feb we're going on a road trip to Castlemaine to visit Brandy, a Sydney adventure is tentatively planned for March)
Made our way to the Old Bar in Fitzroy to see The Gear (Sandra's boyfriend, Brett is the drummer) and there was this old drunk guy there, Roy. I think he might live there or something. Anyway, he kept getting up and dancing to the bands, but the way he danced was so funny and cute. And in between The Wellingtons and The Gear he got up and played the harmonica (I don't think it was a particular tune). It was the best thing ever. We told him he stole the show and he talked to us for about 10 minutes after that. I couldn't understand a word he said. His t-shirt said "Roy" on it.
Speaking of stealing, we tried to steal a triangle but then someone else beat us to it. Cunts.
I am going to Brisbane in two weeks! Just for the weekend, thanks to Charlie and the celebration of her birth.
Aw, film school is nearly finished. This makes me sad.
I think most people there think Sandra and I are a couple. Some guy who wants us to help on a film he plans to make asked us if we both have cars the other day. We said yes and he said, "Oh, I didn't know if you just shared a car".
Geez, a couple of girls can't even be BFF these days without everyone thinking they're together. It's not like we're making out behind the lectern or anything.
I was considering posting photos, but I think it's just going to require too much effort. I'm just not a team player.
I watched "Rock Paper Scissorhands" the other day.
It's a terrible film.
If I ever become a world-famous director I'll be ashamed to say that RPS was my directorial debut.
Not that I want to be a director. Ever.
I spent $122 on underwears and wifebeaters yesterday. What a great story. I should tell it more often.
Your turn.
