Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? TINY AS A TINY THING. My artist friend did math with proportions and skateboards and decided he's about four-foot-four. The overall impression that you get from looking at him is that he probably weighs less than ninety pounds if you filled his pockets with quarters.
2. How old is he? Probably somewhere between 13 and 400. For all intents and purposes, he's in his early teens, but canon is vague and it could go either way.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? It depends on his mood, but usually either nice posture or a sort of slouch with his hips forward and his shoulders back.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Inhumanly fit. Perfect health.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Graceful. He carries himself like he forgets that he's smaller and less physically imposing than every single other person in the room. He (consciously or unconsciously) views himself as being in charge of the situation, and his posture and movements help back this up.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? If you like pale-skinned, black-haired, tiny boys, then he's attractive. He hates looking at himself in the mirror, and doesn't quite understand how anyone can look at him and see anything other than those ugly half-stripes.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? Clear and pale. He also can't tan.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. His hair is black, more coarse than fine. It's cut... look it's a mullet with nose-length bangs what more do you want from me. Also stripes. Three white stripes on the left side of his head. The stripes look like they're painted on the top layer of hair, and cannot be removed in any way.
9. What color are his eyes? Yellow and orange, with both colors on each iris, similar to central heterochromia with the darker color on the inside, but with a distinctive border between the two.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Not really? THOSE STRIPES
11. What are his chief tension centers? Everywhere. Everywhere.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? He has eight of the same suit. He also has pretty much anything else he wants.
In the sphere, he currently has newborn's clothing. He'll be looking into getting a suit made for him once he has some money.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Suits suit him well. He's comfortable in whatever he wears, honestly.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? In his free time he's been shown wearing more casual (though still nice) clothing. He always wears long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Boxers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Deeper than you might expect. I am fond of his voice in the Japanese version of the anime, as see
here 2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Confident, and usually at a reasonable pace. Symmetry is usually what prompts a change in tone, and then he can be loudly despairing or full of obvious wonder.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Going from what I understand of the Japanese, usually he doesn't speak very formally at all, and doesn't use suffixes. He does call his father "chichi-ue", a highly reverent form of address. His speech patterns also become more formal when he is getting emotional over symmetry.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? Headcanon says that he speaks all of them, without even realizing that there are different languages.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? He'll match whatever language the other person is speaking.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? He's a fairly good impromptu speaker, especially if he feels strongly about the subject.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? He's decently articulate, though he can be a bit long-winded and prone towards punctuation abuse pointing out the obvious.
In Edensphere, he has quite a bit of trouble because of the journals. Writing freaks him out, and so he takes longer to decide on what to say and then write it out. Because of this his sentences and words are shorter in writing than if he were speaking face-to-face with someone.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? Much much more book-smart than street smart.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He thinks on his feet and it ends badly. If he takes the time to deliberate he winds up running off to fold toilet paper.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? He's much more intuitive than logical, bases his decisions on things that he feels or has been told, and doesn't often think things through clearly. This results in lots of impulsive decisions, including trusting and distrusting people very quickly.
4. What kind of education has the character had? He attends Shibusen, and has access to every section of the library. Additionally, he has an instinctive understanding of how souls work. He's well-educated in terms of human things, but woefully ignorant of his own abilities and species.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? He's an expert at things relating to souls. He isn't very driven to learn more things, but if he hears something that he doesn't know, he'll try to learn more about that.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? He's fairly introverted.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? When he's not experiencing horrific mood swings, he's pretty even-tempered. When he's not depressed, he's fairly optimistic. When he's not driven, he's decently laid-back.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? If he's not picking up anything with his Soul Perception that's telling him to be terrified, he's totally confident.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? He's more likely to react than to act.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight. Always fight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? His humor switch is kind of stuck in the off position, but he does like puns.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Okay,
OCPD would be a fairly good diagnosis. He's described in canon as a fragment of law, with the insanity of order.
It's been stated offhandedly in canon that he's had counseling, but in the anime he mentions "third rate councilors" trying to trip him up with questions, and while I'm not playing him from the anime, it seems reasonable to assume he has a similar attitude in the manga.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? In canon there are quite a few things that have shaped his development. Meeting Liz and Patti, starting to attend Shibusen, silently recognizing Black*Star as a rival, the incident in the Sahara when he first started having doubts about Shibusen and his Father, his capture by Noah, and his encounter with the Great Old One in the final chapter of the Book of Eibon.
In ES, nothing hugely of note has happened.
14. What does he fear? He fears failure more than anything else, namely failure to live up to expectations, his own or others.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? His goal is to create a perfect orderly world.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? In canon and in Edensphere he intentionally keeps quiet just how far he is willing to go to maintain and create order. This is moreso true in Edensphere than in canon, mostly because he doesn't have anything to work off of except his birth dream (which involved him giving completely in to those destructive impulses, the "ultimate order of nothing"). In canon he keeps it quiet but will freely admit that he is going to create a perfect world (and doesn't care what humans think on the subject). On a related note, he also doesn't talk much about how he views his relations with humans, but it says something that when asked "Are you saying you'd take away other's freedom?" he responds with "Disgusting! I'm a shinigami! I will never give others the freedom to kill!" (
here, emphasis mine).
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. He greatly respects his "Honorable Father", and looks up to him. However, there is some doubt that's arisen recently because of the way his father is keeping information from him.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? N/A
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? N/A
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? In canon Liz and Patti Thompson are his Weapons, and the closest he has to sisters. He took them in off the streets of Brooklyn because he needed a pair of perfectly symmetrical Weapons to fight with, and they became his close friends and often-needed mental support.
In Edensphere his brother is Jeep. Even though Jeep is apparently a murderer, Seven trusts him completely, and views him as a good person (though this is solely based on his Soul Perception informing him that Jeep is not a demon), and also sees some sort of connection based on Jeep's three limiters and his own three stripes.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Liz and Patti. They tried to mug him, Kid realized they were identical in their weapon forms, and he decided to partner with him. They decided to accept because they were homeless and Kid had a mansion and unlimited spending money.
In the sphere TBA
6. Does he have other close friends? In canon Kid gets along well with the other members of his team. Black*Star and he are locked in a rivalry, with Black*Star constantly attempting to "surpass god".
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? He gets along with people decently well, but doesn't make friends easily.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? He cares for his friends, but when it comes down to it his role as the son of Death surpasses any friendship he has.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? Single
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? No
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? N/A
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? N/A
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? N/A
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Black*Star, the "man who will surpass god".
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale? He's an X on the Kinsey scale.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? He has no interest at all in sex.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? If he were going to have sex, his partner had better be symmetrical. Also he would have to be in control of the situation.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type? N/A
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? He's a "god", but he's not very religious, if that makes sense.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? He is a code of morals and ethics. He will not ever compromise.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? Highly intolerant.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? Kid is hates chaos, and those who would seek to cause chaos. Additionally, he cannot stand the idea of any individuals who think of themselves as completely good or evil. "If good and evil were at perfect equilibrium, there would be no problem. If there was a perfect balance, dispute and discrimination would disappear" (
here).
Also he is prejudiced against demons.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? In canon Kid is filthy rich.
In Edensphere he is not filthy rich at all.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? Son of God.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? A giant mansion full of expensive symmetrical classy things.
.... and then in Edensphere he is currently in temporary housing.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? In canon he lives nicely but not really over-the-top. He has nice clothing, eats nice food, and buys whatever he wants whenever he wants it.
In the sphere he is at the "basic necessities" level.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? He kills things. He's good at it.
In-game he's going to get a job in Housekeeping (at least until he gets fired for doing too good of a job).
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? His interests include organizing things, making symmetry, and hanging out with friends.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? He eats when he feels hungry, eats things in multiples of two (for example he would never just eat an apple. He would eat an apple and peanutbutter because that's more balanced). Alcohol and caffeine have no affect on him, so if he were to drink (alcoholic beverages or coffee) it would be for the taste rather than any affects.
