24 - Betaing - How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
I've never had a beta, so I don't have any stories to share (and my fic might have some major flaws!). I think the closest I've had is a big bang where I'm pretty sure I got someone to read my fic first. It wasn't a conscious decision not to have someone - when I first started writing I just posted fic because I didn't know any different and then when I heard of betas I thought it was just one of those things some people had and it didn't occur to me to pursue it. I think it's great that fandom is an environment where having a beta is not only accepted but encouraged, although I've never really had the urge to seek one out.
I've recently started participating in a fandom-friendly writing group, and have been getting really valuable feedback on stories I'm writing (even though I'm currently asking for feedback on chapters after I've posted them). I'm looking forward to when I can submit something prior to posting and also eventually some original work. But that's a whole other issue. I'm really enjoying the process so it might lead me down the beta route one day.
