Fandom meme - day 3

3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?

I end up really attached to my POV characters so I expect my list will reflect that.

Dragon Age:
Carver is a mess of salty and heartfelt, awkward and proud, and (at the start of the game) teenage hormones. He is such a joy to write because he's so misunderstood by other characters but he really has a lot going on inside.
Sebastian was the protagonist of my first major fic. The thing that I loved best about writing him was his inner conflict with his faith and his feelings for a friend. But as a supporting character he's also interesting and sometimes unpredictable.
Others: Fenris (has a lot of presence even when not POV), Isabela, f!Hawke, Bethany

Mass Effect:
James. Oh, James. Big heart. Fiery. Flirty. and one hell of a soldier. I love getting into his head and heart, into his hopes and hurts (there are a lot of them). I also love writing his physicality. It's been fascinating doing a Shepard/Vega fic from his point of view, because there's also the hero worship aspect (also, conflict between duty and love. hmmm, this may be a pattern here).
Others: f!Shep, Cortez, Tali

Merlin:
Mordred stole my heart. There are a lot of characters in Merlin that have to hide their magic - just like in DA, it's a major part of the setting - but for some reason (maybe Alex Vlahos' face) his particular viewpoint really captivated me. He wants to do so much good but struggles to fight others' perceptions of him (particularly Merlin, thanks to the prophecy).
Others: Guinevere, Arthur, Morgana

FF8:
Squall was so introverted and in his own thoughts that it was easy to imagine how he would react because the game gave us a lot of insight into his personality. Having said that, when I was writing and RPing him in the early days there was a lot of blushing at other characters' advances and not much else so my writing of him had to mature - but it hasn't translated into that much output yet because other fandoms took hold.
Others: Seifer, Zell

And yes, all the main entries on this list? Male. With the exception of my Sense and Sensibility/DA adaptation and my original fic, I haven't written anything substantial from a female POV, which is why I'm invested in the idea for my next few projects to make things more balanced. I have a ton of female characters that I love, so it should be easy. It's about time, I think.
