Here's a very simple, quick way to enhance reds in an icon.  Like Simone Simons' stunning red hair.

Uses Selective Coloring.

Take your image, crop and sharpen as needed.



Duplicate and set to screen 100%.


Add a new selective coloring layer.
Reds:
-Cyans: -59
-Yellows: 76

Neutrals
-Cyans: -34
-Yellow: 54



Add a gradient layer.  Set the color to white, and adjust the angle and opacity to fit your icon.

and voila!
