So I've decided to try and keep track of everything I do for the wedding, although I'm actually starting a little late so some of my entries will be backdated.
Thus far I have booked Tedd's on the Hill (
http://www.teddslanding.com/Tedd's_On_The_Hill.htm) for a location, agreeing to pay for a minimum of 100 people for their catering. The wedding will be outdoors in early afternoon followed like an hour later by dinner, since the ceremony will be right next to the reception hall. The place is on a hill (duh) and overlooks the Susquehanna river, rather pretty =)
As far as other things previously taken care of, my two bridesmaids are Becky and Bri. I've known Becky since 3rd grade actually, and we lived together for like 3.5 years at Penn State and became close friends, even if she's essentially the opposite of me (uber-conservative history-major christian introvert--though at least she's a raving carnivore like me). Becky will be my maid of honor, and her mom makes wedding cakes for a living so I'll have her do that. Bri I've known since high school and she also went to Penn State. We've a bit more in common, her being an ecology major while I'm in molecular bio, and she's now attending grad school for a masters just north of me. Becky started teaching just a few weeks ago at a school near our hometown. So far both have been a huge help for my planning =)
I'm having my friend Cody, whom I've known since high school if not earlier, do photography. He's wicked talented--his stuff's at www.codex0.info. My mom then has a friend from the fire dept who DJs weddings, so that's done. I'm thinking of asking my youngest brother Stephen to do videography since he has a basic video camera and would enjoy it, and looking to have my other two brothers Paul and Carl be ushers. All three are younger than me but taller now *sigh* I'm finally the shortest in the family.
I'm going to ask my little cousin Matthew to be ring-bearer, he's just too adorable. And my cousin Ginny's girl Brianna would make a great flowergirl.
Jonathan knew a pastor who will officiate a semi-religious ceremony, religious only really for the sake of our guests as Jonathan and I are not really religious (we just care that the vows are not dependent on god or such). Jonathan's best man will be his older brother George, and his other groomsman will hopefully be his half-brother Jeff (who he still needs to ask!). We'll ask his sister Sheila to do a reading, probably a religious one (we'll likely have one religious and one not, and Sheila's very religious, unlike Jonathan or his brother).
I've decided to go with a sakura (cherry blossom) theme with mainly pinks and white (still can't believe I'm actually choosing pink, I've hated it so many years!), very light and airy and spring-like (late May is still technically spring!), along with pearls and candles and water and petals, etc. I'm going to have decorated paper fans as favors, since it'll go with the theme and people can get it before the wedding in case it's hot out, and I'll probably have the bridesmaids have fan-bouquets too, like my Aunt did in the wedding where I was a flower-girl years ago, very pretty!
So far I've managed to send "Save the Date" magnets to everyone...here's a copy!
Hmm, what else...I plan on doing everything that I can myself. I'll buy my wedding dress of course, but I'm going to make my own veil and design the centerpieces and other decorations. A friend of my mom's is getting married two weeks before me, and they have neat candle centerpieces that we're going to buy from them at half price. They gave me one now to try and see how I want to decorate it...how it looks out of the box is shown below.
Stuff I still need to work out: flowers, event stuff like chairs and tent, specific menu, hotel reservations, wedding dress/shoes/etc, hairstyle, wedding bands, gifts for people, invitation design, wedding registry, and probably many other things. Still not at the point of feeling overwhelmed though, which is good. Oh, and we're not likely to go on a honeymoon right away after, though I am thinking of Costa Rica when we do get around to it! (Been there twice, it's awesome!)
That's all for now, I'll post another update later!
