Music, 20 years, and the Art of Artificiality

Surprisingly intimate. Those two words appropriately describe the Bright Eyes show that I just saw at the Kimmel Center. It’s odd. It’s a really big venue (much bigger than the Electric Factory, for example) and there are seats as well. But for some reason, being 150 feet away from Mr. Oberst didn’t affect how “personal” it felt. Combine a great set list, with watching him with someone who means a whole lot to me, and him crushing a beer can on his forward - it was amazing all around. Simply put, it was among the best shows I’ve seen this year.

And that’s not easy to defend; I mean I just saw Murder By Death at The Church on Wednesday. This show also ruled. And I managed to get a drumstick from Murder By Death’s drummer. Pretty s-i-c-k.

Oh yeah, I'm 20 years old. I'm no longer a teenager. Well, it's about time. Somebody told me I acted like a middle-aged man today. So I guess I'm finally catching up. Thank you all for making this year special -- and thank you Jesus for bringing me through it. Thank you for your support. And free stuff. I love you all so much. So much.

I finally got a turntable, so now I can enjoy my vinyls. Yay!

I’m not really working on anything especially enlightening or intellectual, so I won’t lie. I hope this suffices as an adequate entry. And remember, it’s a lot easier to discuss class and gender than it is to discuss race. That’s something I’ve learned first hand this weekend. It’s a crying shame too. Fake socialists. Fake leftists. Fake anarchists. They’re all over. Keep an eye out, folks.
