Icon Tutorial 3

Jun 09, 2006 12:37

This is the first tutorial I ever made... so please be kind to me... (if there are any problems... I use the german version and try to translate everything to their english names... if I make mistakes I'm sorry)
I'll show you how I made this icon

  from this picture.

1. First I made the background for the icon, mostly by cloning other parts of the pic... then I made it fit in 100x100 until i got this, it was a hell of work to get it like that XD

2. from another part of the pic I cut Nate and Maddie and put them on a new layer above the background (this is the layer as .psp file) the settings of the rope where like this
now the icon should have to layers (the background and the Maddie/Nate layer) and look like this:

3. Now duplicate the Maddie/Nate layer two times and set the first copy to soft light and the second copy to screen. the icons now looks like this

4.  I added two new layers on top of the all others:

4.1
set this layer to exclusion

4.2
set this one to soft light

you should now something that looks like this

( I know it looks weird now... but that will change)

5. not I added the snow/stars like layers

5.1
and 5.2
and set both layers to screen

it now looks like this:

6. I didn't like the colour so I added another layer

set it to burn 28%

that looks better, but I'm still not satisfied

7. I wanted only that the hair is coloured, so I added a new layer and filled it bith black #000000 and set it to color.
Now you icon looks black and white... I took the lasso/rope tool with followings settings: anti-aliasing is on and the border-sharpness-thing is set to 1(I really don't know how it's called ine the english version... sry)
settings look like this

and this is what you should get

5. the colours still didn't look like I wanted them to be so I added a new Brightness/Contrast - Layer

Layers -> New Adjustment Layer -> Brightness/Contrast  settings were: brightness = 25 and contrast = 30
it looks like this now:

6. Now I only added a new layer with the white text... and underneath it one to get the black border around the text and that's it we got the final icon
