So the past week.... Bill Bailey was really good and Wednesday night. He had some technical problems with the sound and it was the first night of the tour, which made it a bit disorganised (although I think it is difficult to distinguish that from his general presentation style). Nonetheless, we was incredibly funny and very endearing. Also with it being Halloween I some good costumes, I particularly liked the ones based on Mighty Boosh. After the show, we walked home with Miriam, and it was good to see her although walking past the Bot was pretty hectic. At one point the whole street smelled of Red Bull - shocking.
Thursday I didn't make it to Truth in Translation as I was feeling rotten - that last pretty much until Tuesday. We tried to go and see it on Friday but it was sold out, so we just got some nice food and some cava, and then headed down to the Speigeltent for one drink in the after-festival club. It was the first time I have been in a speigeltent and I loved it. It was so beautiful, like stepping back in time. I just wanted to touch all the walls and soak up the atmosphere. Rich I spent ages sat in the corner imaging what it would have been like at different points in the last century, and in different countries.
On Saturday I still felt grotty. I attempt to do a little work, but failed. In the evening we went to see the Naomi Klein lecture, which had an interesting idea (which I don't think is original), but it was badly argued. Nonetheless, I am happy I went as I was curious about her work. Afterwards we went to the Crescent Arts Centre for the first time in ages. A lot of Rich's friends were there, which was a mixed blessing (thankfully the less pleasant ones left early). Afterwards we stupidly agreed to go back to east Belfast and it took us as much time to find a taxi as it would have for all of us to walk to ours. I stayed up at Keith's for a couple of hours and then when I went to call a taxi I realised it was 6.30am. (Rich didn't make it home until 5pm the next day!) I shouldn't have stayed up so late when I have so much on, but I think I wilfully lost track of the time in some vain protest at working every weekend. Silly really as it just means I have to catch up on the work. Sunday was pretty quiet. Monday I tried working in the office as there was a painter at home, but it didn't really work as Sofia came in pretty early (I hadn't thought she was becoming full-time until next week). I find it hard to work with in the office, so I went for a nice coffee and catch up with Graeme and then had lunch with Kirsten.
Yesterday and today I worked at home and wrote 13,500 words - a personal best for 2 days. Pretty brain dead now though, but it needed doing as I'm going to Frankfurt on Friday morning. Yesterday, I also taught a research methods class in the afternoon on databases. It is the first time I have taught in a while and it went pretty well. The students seemed strangely excited by databases (even though I like I don't expect anyone else to!)
Also in the past week, we have watched series 7 of West Wing again :) West Wing always makes me happy.
Right bed time xxx
