Despite the fact that it doesn't affect my typing ability at all, having lost my voice, I am feeling short on words. I was home today (scheduled day off) and will not be going in tomorrow (which will be a bona fide sick day). It is a struggle to speak at all (and even with full effort it's more of a squeaky whisper) and I have a dry cough which is hacky and painful. With my free time, I have been reading, crossword puzzling, and catching up on a bit of record-keeping and corresponding. Last week I wrote to some old friends in MA and it's been nice catching up over the distance via the magic of email. I am still waiting (patiently - I'm in no rush) for my insurance co. to call me about my car's hail damage. And I won a dozen local free-range, happy-chicken eggs! My CSA gave a certain number of CSA members a free dozen just for responding to their email; it was open only to those who hadn't previously ordered eggs along with their veggie boxes, and I think it's designed to get us hooked. I'm all for it!) so I'll pick those up with my next box, in one week from tonight. A. and I watched the final episode of True Blood and were wholly disappointed; the writers trashed what were excellent story lines and characters in favor of some horror-film schlock with sub-plots of vampire-kidnapping and drug abuse that diverge so far from the book series that, after only 12 episodes, there are fewer similarities than differences. We both loved Harris's books* but at this point, we don't want to watch any more of the series; which is convenient, given that we don't have HBO. What else? I made a deliciously simple dish with swiss chard, garlic, currants, and pine nuts. It was yummy cold, I thought! I gobbled it all up before I even had a chance to share it with A.
* I'm actually reading another of Charlaine Harris's series: the Lily Bard series, all with 'Shakespeare' in the title. They're well-written mysteries with good character development, perfect for a sick day.
