So,
maculategiraffe asked me about some of my icons.
But they're all so beautifully cryptic!
Hm, yes. So I'll start with the last one since that's really the easiest.
The script in this icon is a phonetic representation of my given name (Anne, German pronounciation) in Japanese Kanji. Now, anyone who knows anything about the Japanese writing system will tell you that unlike Chinese, in Japanese foreign names are not usually written with such characters. Besides Kanji Japanese has two scripts where each character represents a syllable (kanji represent concepts and have each at least two possible pronounciations). One of them is mainly used to write foreign names and imported words.
The Kanji for my name were specifically chosen for a calligraphy class. So while it's okay to use them for decorative purposes, I cannot use them on official papers, say my Alien Registration.
I use the icon interchangeably with my default icon.
There was a phase in my life when I was obsessed with eyes (and deathly afraid of ever going blind). While that is pretty much over, eyes are still fascinating to me. The eye in the icon is mine by the way. I intend to use it for particularly insightful things, or if I had an epiphany.
This icon iis for when I'm feeling kind of crazy. The text is from Björk's "Violently Happy". (What can I say? Björk is the best.) The photo is the JAL building in Fukuoka. Even though that's not obvious here, it's shaped like a giant airplanes wing (if the plane was buried sideways and only the wing was aboveground). I was actually thinking of replacing that icon because the coloring is so dull.
This photo was taken in a quarry. The road doesn't only look like it leads nowhere, it does lead nowhere(IIRC, it ends rather abruptly at a very steep drop). So the text is appropriate. I use this if I don't know where I'm going or I'm feeling silly and what I'm saying doesn't go anywhere.
