Alarm Will Sound's cover of "4" by Aphex Twin
I discovered this song in 2005, back when Salon had a daily mp3 available for free download. Alarm Will Sound is a group of classical musicians. They recorded an album, "Acoustica," of covers of electronic music performed by Aphex Twin that had been transcribed for classical instruments. So you have an analog recording of digital music, released in digital format. The mind boggles. But it sounds great. I much prefer this version to the synthesizer original. This is my favorite song off the album. Five years ago, I went to a retreat where we were asked to bring an mp3 that best represented who we were. I didn't get around to burning a copy, but this was the first song I thought of.
