Going absolutely bonkers trying to get things done before my company gets here. My best friend from when I was a little girl is coming out to visit me, and we're going to have a blast. But I've been desperately trying to get the house in order before she gets here. And I've, um, spent a lot of money in the last few days/weeks on projects and things that I've been meaning to do for a long time. But now the house looks really good. I mean, except for the cleaning that hasn't been done yet. And she shows up on Friday. Eek! And some of the projects just...aren't going to get done before she's here. So the bathroom trim isn't painted. The floor moldings aren't on in the kitchen or the bathroom. I've just realized that I want to paint another weird corner in our kitchen green, because I moved some stuff around and now it looks weird all over there by itself like that. And then I'm going to get a dishwasher! Because they make 18 inch wide ones that will fit in my kitchen!!!!! And I'm Going To Buy One!!!!!! Ahem. What was I...oh, yeah. Um, the blinds aren't going to get cleaned before Friday. Because I hate that, and I don't have time. Also, the study is a disaster. Oh, well. She doesn't have to sleep in here. Which is good, because there's no room for anyone to walk, let alone sleep.
But I did get new curtains for the living room and take down the blinds. And I bought a brand spanking new kitchen table, which is *so pretty* and chairs, also pretty. And immediately covered them up with table cloth and chair covers, (which were hard to find, but got some up in Lynnwood. Yes, Lynnwood.) because of pets. But when I have company, hoo-boy, are they gonna be nice. The chair covers I got are a linen-white kind of duck cloth, that only cover down over the seat. I didn't want the full length ones, because of the cats. Those of you that have cats will understand. The table cloth I bought is so cheerful. It's like a checkered table cloth, only with rainbow colors. Sean is, er, well, it's growing on him. But he really likes the living room curtains I picked out, so he's dealing. And the cats *love* that they can sit on the chairs and be hidden by the table cloth. So far no major snags. But better snags on cloth than scratches on the wood.
The windowsills are cleaned, and the windows are (mostly) washed, and I shampooed [sp] the carpet in the back bedroom so it (hopefully) doesn't smell like cat pee. And all I have left to do is clean the bathroom, vacuum, dust, sweep, mop, sweep down cobwebs, put away laundry, wash the dog, clean the litter boxes, clean down that back heat vent again just to be sure, and, um, I think that's it. Maybe. Before Friday. And get my work done. And go to dance class. And maybe cry.
My friend won't care, but really, company is the only way some of this stuff gets done. So I feel the frantic need to run around like a giant chicken without a head. But at least when I'm done the house will look fabulous. For a week, anyway. But if I'm not around here much for a little bit, that's part of why. The other part is that May is absolutely insane with birthdays and parties and then I'm going to Baycon, so this will probably be a sparse posting month. But I'll check in with people here and there, and I'll be back next month. Ish.
