Dreaming of mercy street, wear your inside out...

It is nearly August - in an hour it will be my birthday month, and then I will truly be in my 40s. For some reason in my head I hear Alan Rickman's voice in a quote from Galaxy Quest, saying 'By Grabthar's Hammer, what a savings.' I don't know why. This year August will be a month of Getting Things Done. Well, let's hope, anyway. Because I have a lot to get done.

I am working on a project that is a gift for a friend. It's daunting, and I'm afraid to really start it. But I've begun in fits, and I will really start this weekend. I have to admit I'm a little terrified. I hope that will translate well into creation.

I also want to finish the rewrite of the novel this month. I am about 170 pages from the end, although I keep adding and subtracting pages, so that's not an accurate count. I have 30 odd pages for this next chunk of scenes that I think I can get done by Sunday night. Maybe. And then there's about 40 pages for the chunk after that. ANd then somehow I still have 100 pages left, even though it's the end and everything is just running past like gangbusters. I'm not sure how I made that marathon ending work before. I don't know if it still does. I guess I'll figure it out as I race through it - I will give it my very best shot to be done with the rewrite by the end of August, or at the very least, Labor Day.

We will be having our annual Backyard Gathering BBQ and Lindsey's Bday party, although this year will be less epic than last year. F'rinstance, it will definitely be potluck, and there will probably be a lot fewer decorations. But it will be a Good Time (R) and there will be food and music, and I'll probably make cupcakes or something. Because cupcakes.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, things are kind of the same old. I'm working, I'm writing, I'm dancing, I'm hanging out. Mr. Sweetie and I watch too much television, and play with the cats, and talk about our writing. It's not a terrible life. I'll admit to wanting the writing to go faster. Let's see how I do.

totally a grown-up, parties, writing habits, summertime, dancing, writing, new stuff, all about me, writers
