Watching
Pairing/Characters: AkaKame, Koki(cameo)
Summary: Jin watches Kame sleep through out the years

Jin shifted uncomfortably on his side. The ground was hard and cold and the thin green sleeping bag he was given did little to help ease the pain. His back was beginning to hurt and his left arm had long gone numb, but even still Jin made no move to change positions as he kept his gaze on the sleeping figure before him. Next to him in that green tent on the cold unforgiving beach was Kamenashi Kazuya. The younger boy had fallen into a fitful sleep earlier - exhaustion finally taking over the pain of their sleeping conditions.

He watched as Kazuya slept on unknowingly and wondered just what was it about the boy that had him so captivated? Kazuya was two years younger than himself and despite playing baseball - quite diligently and well - Kazuya was really beyond skinny. Not to mention his caterpillar eyebrows - Jin smiled - caterpillar eyebrows that were currently furrowed. Jin immediately frowned and before he realized what he was doing he’d reached out a hand to Kame’s face and gently ran his thumb over the small wrinkles between the furrowed brows. Kazuya leaned towards the touch and his facial features slowly began to relax as he let out a soft sigh. Jin let out a small gasp and pulled his hand back

There was a strange throbbing in his chest that he didn’t know how to describe, and was too young to truly understand as he watched the younger boy sleep. All he knew was that even if it was easy to call Kazuya his best friend somehow the younger boy seemed like so much more.

The soft steady lull of the train was soothing and when Kazuya’s head dropped onto his shoulders Jin had found it completely natural to drape his jacket over their shoulders. As Kazuya’s head fell further into the crook of his neck Jin couldn’t help but lean his own head on top of Kazuya’s. Jin sighed softly and beneath the cover of his jacket he moved the back of his hand to rest flushed against Kazuya’s.

Jin liked it, being close to Kazuya; he could hear each intake of air Kazuya took and could feel whenever Kazuya moved. So when Kazuya’s breath took a slight hitch and his fingers held a small twitch Jin opened his eyes and glared at the others.

“Oi, you guys are annoying.”

“The annoying ones are you two; snuggling up together like that.” Came a reply from Koki, but the group obediently quieted down.

There was an upturn curve of his lips as Jin leaned his head against Kazuya’s once more. And he knew it was probably just his imagination - that he was thinking too much - but just a little bit Jin thought he could see a small smile grace Kazuya’s lips in the reflection of the window opposite where they sat.

Jin watched Kazuya sleep, a smile still present on his face. The younger boy had practically bounced into his room earlier that night and proceeded to tell Jin about the baseball game he’d gone to see that day. Glad to see the other boy excited and happy, Jin let Kazuya talk the night away until he’d fallen asleep. Jin brushed a lock of hair away from Kazuya’s face. His fingers lingered for a few moments in the soft locks of hair before he pulled his hand back and sighed softly, perfectly content watching Kazuya sleep.

Ah, maybe I’m in love with him.

He gasped silently and his eyes widened at the thought, but as he continued to look at the sleeping boy before him, Jin realized he wasn’t as shocked as he really should have been. And maybe he wasn’t entirely surprised because perhaps the recognition of his feelings was long overdue. A sense of relief flowed through him at the realization, but at the same time a new heavy burden fell upon his shoulders; Jin would never be able to confess his true feelings. Kazuya would never return his feelings, and by some small chance that Kazuya did like him back it didn’t change the fact that they were both boys. But even still he couldn’t keep himself completely contained. Pulling himself up to his elbows Jin leaned close to Kazuya’s face.

“Forgive me that I love you. I won’t burden you with my feelings, but if possible - if I could be just a little selfish…I want to be able to keep loving you even if only in the shadows. Even if only in times like these I want to be able to love you.”

They were at George Tokoro’s house for Cartoon KAT-TUN’s Okinawa special, and though there had been three rooms prepared - two members per room - the six of them had fallen asleep in one room after telling ghost stories all night. Koki was curled up somewhere on the floor with a blanket. Taguchi was leaning half off one of the beds, Ueda on the other side, and Nakamaru nestled between the two. Kazuya was sleeping comfortably on the other bed and Jin was awake next to him.

The night was impossibly dark as the rain continued to fall and the large clouds blocked all moonlight. Still Jin kept his eyes opened so at every flash of lightening could catch a glimpse of Kazuya’s sleeping face. Jin was tense and afraid to move, not just because of the ghost stories, but also because it had been months - over half a year really - since he’d last been in the same room as Kazuya sleeping.

Before he’d left for the States Jin had had the chance to watch Kazuya often, as he was usually the one called upon to pick the younger man up from a late night out with other people. It was one of the few things he would drop whatever he may have been doing to fulfill - if only because it allowed him a few moments alone with the other man - and was something he missed dearly during his time in America. And since his return to Japan, despite the initial joy and affection, Kazuya was almost cold towards Jin and had seemed to always find a way home on his own.

Tentatively Jin reached out a hand and lightly caressed Kazuya’s cheek.

“I miss you.” Jin whispered softly, his quiet voice drowned out by the falling rain

Jin watched as exhaustion began to take over Kazuya slumped form. Getting up from his seat Jin moved to sit next to Kazuya silently offering his shoulder to the younger man. He resisted the urge to lean his head on Kazuya - even Jin wasn’t that bold and stupid. He missed it - the physical intimacy they were once allowed - and Jin was sure Johnny-san was probably going to say something to him for the current display of familiarity but at the moment all that mattered to him was that Kazuya was taken care of.

“Akanishi, it’s time to board the plane.” Koki’s voice suddenly said behind him and Jin groaned inwardly - he was just getting comfortable.

“Wake up your girlfriend.” Koki continued and Jin flushed, but kept silent as he shook Kazuya’s shoulder rousing the younger man.

It had been unexpected but once settled into their seats Kazuya immediately returned to lean his head against Jin’s shoulder once more. The movement had been so natural that Jin was momentarily stunned before a small smile found its way onto his face. Jin relaxed into his seat once more and this time allowed himself to indulge and rested his head against Kazuya’s.

Jin sighed heavily as he headed off the set; his head was pounding and his body ached all over. He felt bad for not being able to give his all during the filming, but the staff had been understanding and kind. Walking into the dressing room Jin was surprised to find Kazuya still there and asleep. Kazuya had arrived earlier that day and had brought him food and medicine, but Jin hadn’t anticipated on the younger man to stay the rest of the day for him. Taking light steps towards Kazuya, Jin knelt down until his face was level with Kazuya’s.

He raised a finger to the sleeping man’s face and gently traced the curve of Kazuya’s nose. Jin smiled as he felt the familiar bump in Kazuya’s nose.

“After all this time…I’m still so in love with you.”

Kazuya yawned as he drove towards the BANDAGE shooting location, Jin asleep in the passenger side next to him. The older man hadn’t been feeling well and Kazuya made Jin promise to go to the doctor even if he had to drive Jin himself. In the end Kazuya did have to drive Jin to the hospital early that morning, and even spent hours waiting in the car for Jin to come back out. He’d been worried when Jin entered the car, but the older man had assured him that he’d just had a simple cold and was a little stressed and he’d be in perfect health in a few days. Still Kazuya was worried - albeit a bit more relieved - and promptly decided to stay and help take care of Jin until he was better. Jin had told Kazuya that he didn’t have to - Kazuya probably had his own work to deal with - but he wouldn’t take “no” for an answer and finally the older man relented on the condition that should he be called in anywhere Kazuya would go.

They finally arrived at the shooting location and Kazuya parked the car in a well secluded place. Unbuckling his seat belt Kazuya moved to undo Jin’s as well but paused for a moment and looked at Jin’s sleeping face. Kazuya reached up and brushed Jin’s bangs out of his eyes. As his fingers lightly touched the heated skin on Jin’s forehead Kazuya frowned. He knew Jin would still go into work - Kazuya would’ve too - and ran the palm of his hand over Jin’s warm face. Jin sighed and leaned towards Kazuya’s cool touch.

A bittersweet smile formed on Kazuya’s face, “You’re selfish Jin. It would be nice if you would let me love you more.”
