I would agree that Jennifer Hudson is a phenomenal actress and singer, and that success on American Idol would have impeded her rise to her current grandeur. American Idol, I believe needs to be accepted for what is it... a television show. The thing we all need to realize is that although the producers do set out to find America's next great talent, they will do whatever it takes to up their viewer ship and ratings. Proof of this can be seen from the beginnings of each season in which those with entertainment value as opposed to talent are predominantly featured. It is nothing to get worked up about. Truth be told American's watch TV for entertainment, and frankly I think more people can recognize those who were mocked on the show ( William Hung for example) has gained more renown than many of the finalists and winners (save the most recent). Simon's behavior in particular is very entertaining if there are any Avenue Q fans or German speakers reading this "Schadenfreude" (happiness at the misfortune of others)is a driving instinct that Simon's behavior plays directly into. The drama between the judges contestants and America also proves to be a draw to the American people. It keeps things exciting for viewers. American's many not vote for the most talented on AI... They vote for the one that entertains them the most... They watch, not in hopes of aiding a talented youth to achieve fame and fortune, but to entertain themselves. This in conjunction with talent leads to the success or failure of many on the television show. This takes nothing away from the show or those who do not achieve the title of "American Idol", indeed Many of the greatest accomplishments have been borne out of defeat. I can understand those who find the appeal of the show, but would ask that you recognize it for what it is and not hold anything against the producers, judges, winners or losers. They all play a valuable part in the billion dollar enterprise that is American Idol.

Then leave your opinion if you care too...
