FPS Narrative Thingy

icklefickle suggested that I post this here. The names are pseudonyms. (No, I don't know any tenth grader named Timmy, nor anyone named Helvetica.) I guess, to start discussion, how much does this resemble your guys' solving experiences? And there's a whole lot more I could put in, but it's really the intro to an essay about types of group workers. Which is ( Read more... )

that soo sounds like my team! except for you forgot people like me, who are standing on chairs and hanging upside down, lol. but seroiusly, i agree with that. we have one boy who is very focussed, a girl who is crazy and extremely outgoing, and two people (me and another boy) who tend to go between the two every five minutes. it's a grand time.

do you know a tenth grader named Eustacia? And gumdropgrrl, she's bouncing up and down on the beds, so that's close to standing on chairs and hanging upside down. Frankly, I'd say we really defy classification as FPS team members (I'm usually all organized and writer of the meeting agendas and such, but I'm also usually the one acting out the U.P. and pacing madly around the room and doing gymnastics on the beds. And when undeadgoat shuts up and writes, she actually can be quite quite. And as you've said, you and Timmy swing madly around... but for the purposes of your essay, classify me as whatever (actually if you classify me as the mad, bouncing off the wall person, that'd be pushing it, but you aren't).

*thats* why we are crazy. *The lightbuld has gone off.* I am supposed to be all serious and on task and not putting up with anyone's antics unless they're helpful, but half the time, I'm involved in the antics. I suppose I did not seem like someone who would be in seventh grade when Ms. B didn't really know me and we got put on teams though.

No, that neither. I think that you are definitely the organized, compulsive (in a good way) one. Not necessarily during the problem, but DEFINITELY before. (can we say, "6 page description of FPS" or "meeting agenda?") It's likely that we all provide the fuse for all of us - hence, everyone being a little crazy. However even when you are crazy solving (at least sometimes) you are kind of organized crazy (like "Hey everyone. Be quiet while I act out the UP.) I'll definitely be more attuned to all this tomorrow when we solve.

Well said. This should be interesting. Maybe you should bring your ibook and record it... although Timmy would probably foil that plan. But I've always thought it would be amusing to see video/hear audio of us solving after the fact.
