As summer fades into hockey...

So apparently there were some awards giving out, and yours truly was nominated and awarded one? Pretty crazy, and I'm definitely flattered. Thanks for all who voted for me.

The summer is winding down. It's been incredibly hot in Edmonton, and things are busy with Alex starting preschool this fall, and of course camp right around the corner. I've been training hard, although sticking to off ice workouts for the most part. When I think back to where I was a year ago, it's kind of unimaginable. I spent large parts of the summer in the hospital, battling a disease that could have ended my career or even worse. But I feel great now, and the meds continue to keep my condition under control. I'm looking forward to camp this year, and starting the season out with the team instead of watching from home.

Marco and I were talking about having a pre-season get together... it will, of course, include traditional Italian food and music and homemade gelato. I thought the team could use something like this... it seems like all of us around here are so splintered into our own cliques that no one speaks to each other. I remember the days of a team dinner when we'd all show up together, and that doesn't happen anymore. So plan on bringing your significant others, kids, heck, even your pets if they can play well with others (like my neurotic cat or Alex' now full-grown puppy), and come over for some food and fun.
