The idea of Christmas is such a crazy old tradition that it's been engraved on the minds and souls of pretty much every American citizen. It's just another thing we do, another habit, and habits are hard to break. The idea is that people are horrible nasty creatures with nothing better to do than make their own single lives better while the welfare of others simply doesn't matter. Throughout the year people are mean, angry, and spiteful. However, on just a few days out of the year just about everyone makes an amazing transformation to self-centered, money mongering whores to, caring, giving individuals. While the giving of gifts HAS become much more commercial the theme is to just give. Whether it's handmade by you or by 7 year old children in Korea, it's still giving. Christmas for most people is, surprisingly, not about the receiving of gifts but of giving them.
I personally love to get gifts for other people. I'll buy things for people that like bought stuff and sometimes I'll make things (if I've got the time) for people that like handmade things. Either way it's giving and giving is good.
Now, while I don't really feel that way I'd say I argued the point pretty well SO FUCK YOU ASSHOLE.
The Holidays really are too commercial and I won't be getting any of you guys gifts this year for several reasons. First being I don't really have any money. Second that it's stupid.
I really believe that if you've got the money or the time gifts should be given randomly throughout the year as a celebration of life in general, not the birth of a single, almost mythical individual. It seems rather silly but I really do enjoy giving gifts. I can't help it. My family (immediate family) and my girl will be getting gifts. That's it.

i must say i like the songslights though =]
it's a good excuse to give and receive. for all of our poor asses, too bad we can't give all year.
i did give blood a few months ago. that is free on the surface, but the things consumed to produce that blood cost money.
