Hey there kids. I am thinking of going to FPC in the fall as a freshmen. I've been accepted and given a hefty amount of money and it's on my top two and I am working on finalizing my decisions soon but I would like to hear about it from you guys. How is the Biology program? Anything to do in town? Any insight is appreciated. :)

I usually just lurk in this community but at this point, I'm going to comment for you.

Please disregard any negative comments about this school. Most of the people who are commenting negative things just did not enjoy/want to be here.

Franklin Pierce is a decent school. We are small, located in a semi-rural town in the corner of New Hampshire, Vermont and Western Massachusetts. This explains all of their complaints. "there's nothing to do here. there's nothing near by.. etc."

Indeed there is a lot to do at FPC.

Our school has TONS of options, because, our student activities fee pays for it.

We have the "bubble" (our gym) which offers classes in pilates, kick boxing, yoga, and a bunch of other things. It is also as i said before a full gym, with basketball courts, an indoor soccer field, batting cage, two tennis courts, and more.

We have a huge intermural program. They have everything from Frisbee to flag football. You can form your own team, or they have spots for singles to join up.

Then we also have the Adventure Recreation Lounge (formerly the outting hut) which includes a brand new rock climbing wall, the adventure rec department runs trips every week. They have seasonal things, skiing, snowboarding, ice climbing, caving. There is a free kayak course, you can become certified to take out kayaks onto Pearly Pond, sailing, skate park trips and more. The lounge itself allows for a fun hangout spot, it's quiet, has internet connections, a fire place and more.

Our school has close to 40 clubs. Each ranging from political views, (young dems and college republicans) to academic interests (psychology club, medical club) there are groups that focus on the bonds between friends, and break the boundaries of race, religion, gender, and sexuality (Sistuahs, B.R.O., Gay Straight Alliance, AIDS Awareness, Hillel) and we also have clubs which are strictly for fun and common interest, (FPC Gamers, I am not going to attempt to spell the name of the group but it is a car interest group for I believe european vehicles) and many more. These all fall under the Student Government Association (SGA) and are part of the Association of Clubs (AOC). Each of these clubs runs events, which are all open to the campus, some of these events include dances, Sistuahs runs Bingo nights, the Graphic Design Club hosts a Monopoly turnament, there has been weekend competitions which are based on the TV show Survivor (FPC Survivor) tons of prizes are given out at many events, FPC Gamers run every tuesday night in the Ravens Nest Pub (The Pub) Dance Dance Revolution.

Another thing that is great about the school is that if you don't see what you want, you can form a club of your own.

In addition to these things, our school also has the Campus Activities Board (CAB), like mentioned before. CAB runs weekly events, often has commedians, bands, psychics, palm readers, characturists, and other fun projects on campus, but they run bus trips to big events off campus as well. Boston museums, Shopping in MA, NH, CT, RI and much more.

If you don't see what you want in these type of activities, we have a great community service office, which offers suggestions for anything having to do with a haunted house, working with children as sort of a big brother/ big sister idea (Boynton Buddies, S.K.I.P. (school kids in peterborough), Pierce Pals), also working with horses, greyhound rescue league, kitty rescue, and more.

All of these things I suggested are on the FPC Webpage, you need to link around though. It might take you a few pages to get to them, but the SGA/AOC has a page, Adventure Recreation, CAB, and Community Service all have pages filled with info.

If those aren't enough, we're only a half hour from Keene, NH which has most major retail stores, a movie theater (just about $5 with student id), every type of restaurant you could ask for, as well as a bunch of dive places and bars to hop around, and a community theater.

We're just over a half hour from Leominster MA which offers a little more retail-wise, (and has 5% sales tax) , a bigger modern theater.

About an hour's drive is Nashua NH, offering a larger mall and restaurants.

And closer to an hour and 15 minutes is Manchester NH which is similar to Nashua.

Boston MA is under 2 hours, and we're around 2 and a half hours to Hartford CT.

The key to this school.. don't get stuck. Find someone to go to things with, have a social life. If you choose to be a loner, in the city, or a more urban setting, you'll be ok. But if you choose to shut yourself in, in the middle of the woods, you'll hate every second here.

If you keep motivated, you will make the most out of your college experience. BTW, our Biology program is decent. Come visit us, and don't just talk to tour guides, ask to be brought to the community service office, or the CAB office, even the SGA office and talk to those people. Tour guides here are really easy going and would love to show you what you want to see. Besure to ask questions, and keep them talking, but if you want, ask other students you see about activites and the like.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me, I'm a Senior here, and have actually enjoyed my time at this school.
