Utah Town Ends Law Barring Cat-Dog Cohabitation
Family Found Out About Law At Shelter

PROVO, Utah -- Cats and dogs may not always be able to live together in harmony.
But they can now live together legally in Provo. The City Council has voted unanimously to allow cats and dogs under the same roof.
A little-known city ordinance had barred inter-species mingling.
The law came to the council's attention when Susan Sewell and her family went to the local animal shelter to adopt a kitten. Shelter workers said the family could not adopt because they already had a dog and a cat.
Now, the legal dog fight is over.
Sewell said her kids can't wait to go back to shelter and get their new kitten.
