When hatred is the only theme

One of my fellow LJers is a nice young person who finds herself as practically the only Republican Catholic in her college environment. As such, it is easy to understand that she should indulge in some modest and polite rejoicing at the discomfiture of a candidate and a party that opposed everything that was dearest to her. Less understandable, ( Read more... )

Actually, this wasn't the result of your analysis (which was good, by the way.)
I just listened to Ann debate a Dem on the Sean Hannity show. While I completely understand what she was trying to say (and agree with her), the extremely broad generalizations and ad hominem attacks made me very uneasy. She made this awful generalization that liberals "have a problem with blacks," which is completely ridiculous. What she was trying to say (I assume) is that many liberals pretend to be united with blacks, but only if they agree with them.
Anyway, my amusement with Ann Coulter (though not bright-eyed pleasure, as you put it) really did not stem from much. I've only read a few excerpts from her books, and am amused by her wittiness. Also, I tend to confuse her with talk-show host Laura Ingraham (who truly is both a strong Catholic and great debater).
Anyway, kudos to you for making good points. However, I wouldn't paint her as a "monster," albeit a bit nutty.
I am going to hear what she was to say, anyway. I'll let you know if she says something completely uncalled for.

(By the way, I think by "Marxist thinking" she meant the Marxist desire to eliminate religiously-motivated moral values.)

Whatever she meant, it was illiterate nonsense. Sorry, but I know Marxists and Marxism, and her sneer is simply irrelevant to anything they have to say or do. It is democratic politicians who campaign on economic issues; Marxists have always campaigned on moral ones. Anyone who thinks otherwise simply knows nothing about them.

About the term "monster", it was poorly used - inexcusable, in a study that meant to criticize my target's poor use of language. I meant that to any liberal this sort of person would be the kind of monster they would construct to pillory their idea of conservatism. I do not mean that she is a monster; perhaps the work I was looking for is "caricature".
