I have been to see the Edward Hopper exhibition at Tate Modern. Hopper may well be the greatest painter of the twentieth century, as he certainly is the one who has most successfully tackled the basic issues facing the art of painting in his time. Time and time again, looking at the best of his paintings (for even Homer nods, and a few of his paintings were not as good as the others, I got something that simply cannot be counterfeited: goosebumps. This entry may be updated from time to time, as I find the time and the clarity of mind to describe what it was that impressed me so much in the work of this genius.
