I learned this recently in a friendship with someone whom I had some things in common but not as many as I usually do. It gave me a different angle for looking at things and broadened my comfort zone in a way. You know what I really like about "good" friendships, is the way that they make you a better person. I always thought you had to have deeper intimacy to have that, but you don't. I probably could make a case for familiarity breeds contempt (and perhaps it does) but I think having different types of friends gives one a stronger, more secure place in the world.

and Jenny Warren describes more "types" of friends......

and finally...... those "substitute" friends.....

Well gotta get some rest, just thinking............................

It's been quite a bit since, Sweety the Parakeet lost Petey, her friend. She still calls for her (and looks for her). I don't think Sweety connected Petey staying at the vets. She is connecting to my Parrot, whom, I am surprised, is surprisingly gentle (combined with Sweety being lightening fast). They are supervised, though and I don't let them meander around together due to the difference is size. Sweety gets more height in flying so she buzzes our heads when my Parrot is out. So let's just say, there are all kinds of friendships....

and they are all important, don't you think LJ friends???
