Last night, I went with Yusef, Claudia, and Sharolyn to see Harry Potter at Grauman's Chinese Theater. It was so expensive! $12.75 for one ticket. That is a far cry from the $8 evening shows at home. But the theater was pretty amazing, and I don't mind the cost too much. The movie itself wasn't spectacular, and I was in fact slightly disappointed. The movie was kind of disjointed (especially the beginning - like the movie needed to get into its stride first), and because the book was so very long a lot had to get changed or cut out. I'm sad that all the boys in it lost their long hair - but then, I'm sad when pretty near any boy gets a haircut. That is not to say that it was all bad. I did like how they showed the Defense Against the Dark Arts study group, and Luna Lovegood was wonderful.
What else have I been doing in the couple of weeks since I last wrote? A whole lot, and somehow not very much at all. The days and weeks here go by so quickly! I went to the Getty Museum and saw a wonderful exhibit on medieval books that makes me want to be a medieval studies major. A whole lot of us went to Universal Studios and had a blast. We celebrated several birthdays all in a row. For Martin's, we went to a bar, where Caroline and I (the only two 20 year olds in the group) stayed past the time underage people are supposed to leave and ate a giant brownie sundae. On my birthday, Neil and Martin serenaded me at teatime, and I exposed Caroline and Wolf to the glory that is Casanova played by David Tennant. I've been juggling, and reading, and knitting, and playing frisbee when the occasion arises. Every day I feel like I do so much, yet looking back on it, I realize that I in fact do very little every day apart from go to work and wrestle with my computer. (Yusef and I have gotten past the research part of our project, and have started trying implementations of various methods. A passerby would be able to tell this from the cries of "Why is it doing that? That shouldn't happen!" that now come regularly from our office.)
Yesterday my parents flew across the country, and today I am going out with them to do touristy things. We will take a tour of famous places in the morning, have lunch and walk around Westwood in the afternoon, and go see a concert at the Hollywood Bowl this evening. It will be a good time, but what I am trying to say is that I need to skedaddle now and get ready.
