Oh.. after zoning out, watching Harry Potter on ABC and catching a peek at the 10:00 evening news, I decided to browse Obama's website to see what he has to say about incarceration and violence. Couldn't find any thing, so I sent his campaign a message. It reads:
I am an Obama supporter and a Chicagoan but two things I haven't heard Obama's views on are 1) prison reform and 2) police and violence. I was also not able to find these catagories under Obama's issues on the website. There are now 1 in every 100 adults in prison. I'm working on a campaign called Tamms Year Ten and I'm analyzing surveys that the prisoners have filled out. They are in solitary confinement for 23-1, no rehabilitative services, and some of the men, for no good reason, have been there for 8-10 years. I want to know what Obama's views on mass incarceration are and how our political systems can rehabilitate instead of enslave human beings. I also want to know why we think adding police is going to make our communities safer. There have been unprecedented shootings happening in Chicago and the answer seems to be to infuse more police in these areas. Wrong. We need stable, well-paying jobs for men, black, brown, formerly incarcerated and so on and I would love to here Obama's views for change around increased violence in these trying economic times. thank you.
