I STILL WANT THAT STORY LIKE WE WERE TALKING ABOUT ON TWITTER WHERE HERC AND STACKER DO THE BOMB RUN TOGETHER AND CHUCK IS THE ONE WHO LIVES
AND EVERYBODY AT THE SHATTERDOME IS OBVS PARTYING PRETTY HARD THAT NIGHT BECAUSE THEY FUCKING DID IT THEY WON
but chuck doesn't feel like they did and he drinks all surly and stand-offish and so angry because ridiculous machismo is what he does, he never had to talk about feelings with the one person he really cared about
and then mako and rayleigh get back from being picked up and they're the heroes and worse, so much worse, are the little glances and fond smiles and easy casual affectionate touching and knowing that they both came out of it alive and all he's got is the phantom silence ringing in his ears and he hates them for it so fucking much
so he follows them when they leave and maybe he's had too much to drink on top of all the shit he's pretending he doesn't feel inside but he doesn't really give a fuck because throwing the first punch and feeling it connect with rayleigh's nose like that feels so damn good and maybe they end up on the floor with rayleigh dripping blood on chuck's face from his nose and chuck can't see through one eye and he's definitely not crying a bit
and then mako, mako who let them fight it out a bit because she understands, she takes rayleigh's arm and helps him up and chuck is expecting them to leave him there
but then mako leans down to help him up too and none of them even say anything they just go back to mako's bunk and they all help patch each other up and it is comforting, having the two of them there, and it doesn't drown out all the silence but it helps it fade into the background and they end up all curled up together and snuggling like puppies and chuck wakes up sometime in the middle of the night with his face pressed against mako's hair and rayleigh's leg over his and the sound of them both breathing is enough to settle him back down to sleep, enough sound to not feel so ripped open and alone
