Well, I've done a great deal in kicking the crap out of my diabetes as now my glucose levels have been ranging in the safe zone for three straight weeks now. However, there's another problem that has been developing in me as of late. One night, I checked myself into the emergency room at the same hospital I was first diagnosed with diabetes now complaining about chronic pains I've been having in the balls of both my feet. I had blood work done and some x-rays taken, and it turns out I now have developed peripheral neuropathy in both feet. Now what that simply is is nerve damage that occurs in the feet and hands. Mine has been in my feet, but other nerves have been affected by it, I can tell. There was not much the ER could do for me except prescribe me a one-time painkilling medication. Well now I'm out of that and have been using a combination of ibuprofen and aspirin to help control the pain. So far the ibuprofen has been more affective so I'm sticking with that for as long as I can until I'm able to see my doctor on the 23rd. He might send me in for more radiology imaging tests or something, so I have to be prepared for that. In the meantime, all I can do is just keep taking the ibuprofen and aspirin to help curb the pain, as well as look for a new pair of softly padded shoes, especially for work. I normally keep only one pair of shoes for all intents and purposes, but now I'm probably going to have to keep two or three pairs handy just so I don't wear them out as fast. I already bought a pair of sandals (something I normally don't wear) that have memory foam in them, and they're helping a little. Other than that, I'll just have to wait and see what my doctor tells me. Oh, and this condition has been affecting my sleep as of late, too. As I work overnight, I sleep during the day. Well, the past couple of days have been sleepless for me. The pain just keeps me awake. I did at one point have some liquid sleep-aid (you know, like ZzzQuill, but mine was the Walmart generic off-brand, which is just as effective) to help me doze off, and it did help, but now I'm out of it and won't be able to get any more until next week. My sleeplessness has been affecting my work performance somewhat, but not enough to where I'd earn a berating from my bosses, because according to them, I'm faster and work much more harder.
Can't imagine what it's like to be me these days.
