Well, this past week has been very interesting.
My parents came down to visit on Sunday, and are leaving in like 5 hours to drive back home. Well, as my earliest journal entries on here reflect, my parents were appalled about me being a fur when I first told them a few years ago. My mother compared me being a fur to being an alcoholic.
So understandably we were a bit nervous, as we have a bit of furry shit in our apartment. We put both mine and my mate's suits in bags, hid all that stuff, and hid a few other things. When my parents arrived, they loved our place and looked in our room. My mom saw the net with like 60 plushies in it and (mind you my mate aaron was out of the apartment at the time, as was our roomie, so I was alone with my parents) so she asked me if the plushies were from my days in the 'furry stuff' and if I was still involved and if our friends were furs. I said yes to all of it and she asked me if I was truly happy, and I of course said yes to that. After that she dropped the whole subject and seems to be totally okay with the fact that I'm a fur, cause she finally sees that it's not affecting my work or concentration or changed who I am. I think she also finally sees me as an adult. I would also like to thank Blair, Vahn, Gravis, and Trey for meeting my parents and giving furry a good and professional face, as I think part of the reason she didn't like it before was that she met my first bf, Icefox, and she saw him as a leech and not a good person and she extrapolated all furries to be like him. Thank you for changing my mother's view guys. *hugs*
This is all well and good, but I am still shocked that they were so overly accepting of me being a fur, it's kinda weird for her to so suddenly accept it, especially considering that last time she brought it up, it was still a point of great controversy.
IDK, I just had to write about it, not that many of you out there probably care, but I am so happy and relieved that the whole big assed pink elephant that was surrounding my family is finally gone.
A note to anyone out there whose parents hate furry, if my mother can do a 180 on the subject, anyone's parents can, it just takes time and acceptance of the fact that you aren't their 12 year-old anymore.
